Is the board behaving strangely for anyone else today? I'm getting the little "new" sign next to things I read a long time ago.

I was trying to post before I left for a lunch meeting, and it hung up so long, I left anyway in disgust, hoping it would finish in my absence.
When I returned two hours later, there was the WSOD (white screen of death) but no sign of PrairieChatter, let alone my post. When I "logged in again" to the board, I was still here. Met myself coming and going!
I have gotten the "New" message when there are posts I've already read. Wonder if things are listed as new for a minimum number of hours?

I'm getting "new" for things I read weeks ago. It's all of a sudden -- wasn't happening earlier.

I came to conclusion several weeks ago that they are shown "New" until you have read them.
In my case, although I have read a message on one thread or a partilcuar topic, by the NEXT time I logged on, other messages had been posted on that topic. But as the time had moved on, I never bothered to look at them.
(The topics hadn't turn me on anyway.)
Try going down to a thread from a long time ago which still bears the word "new", read the last posting and then the next time you log in, check out that particular topic. If "New" has gone, then my observations are likely to stand. If it hasn't gone - they haven't! (My observations I mean).
doctor! When I log in, I am logged in for 6 hours at a time then automatically logged out if I forget to do it before I shut down. Which I do frequently! So if I appear to be online at the bottom of the home page, I may very well have been slumbering soundly for some hours.

Brit, yes, I know that "new" usually means unread. In this case, I'm talking about threads and posts I've already read, that are showing up as new even though I've already read them, some earlier today and some as long as weeks ago.
It's weird.

PLUS, when I click on "new," I am taken back to the very FIRST post of the thread.
I'm going to run my spy ware programs.

Bookie, my spyware program runs continuously (Spy Sweeper) and then I think AOL has another spyware program it runs whenever I have AOL email on (which is everyday, all day).
Still I'm getting this weird behavior!

PLUS, when I click on "new," I am taken back to the very FIRST post of the thread. When that happens to me I usually figure I've just been sloppy with my cursor and hit the thread title instead of "New." But maybe I'm affected by poltergeists, too. I definitely haven't experienced the posts from many moons ago phenomenon.

I have an old computer that still runs Windows 98. I just ran a couple of spyware programs and took some stuff off, but I'm still seeing the same thing. Maybe Trusty will happen along and 'splain it. Until then, I can tell what I've read and what I haven't.

I've had more trouble since coming back about an hour ago. As I move from other sites and back here, I find I've bounced to threads or dates I hadn't been on. Odd.

I really can't 'splain it as I'm not having those problems, so it shouldn't be a ProBoards problem (I haven't seen anything on their support board either. Also, sometimes I will get the beginning of the thread when I click on "New", but that only happens on my Windoze computer using IE6.

The beginning-of-thread-after-clicking-on-new phenomenon also occurs with brand-new iMacs using OS X.4.
Sometimes it leaves me at the beginning; other time it briefly displays the beginning and then takes me to where everything is new.

One of the discussion boards where I sometimes read/post has the capacity for a member to block certain posts. Since there have been some threads which aroused controversy, and some animosity between some individuals, I have wondered if ProBoards has this feature. For example, if "Posterzilla" offends me, I can go to my profile and click "Block Posterzilla," and then Posterzilla's posts do not appear when I log on. I haven't actually used the feature, but I think it was on www.FlyerTalk.com.

S'okay, Trusty. We know you have our best interests in mind and we know how hard you try to keep things balanced, here. I don't know where we'd be without you. I've been on some boards where you could block like that and I've used it, and in TalkCity when I was a room op we could 'ignore' as well as 'boot.' But each board is different. Thanks for the effort! And tomorrow will be a better day.

Is anyone else seeing weird loading of pages here lately? Graphics that load elsewhere for me aren't loading here. And tonight, there are weird advertising links showing up in between posts on threads when I read them.
Is it just me? (It may be; my computer runs on Windows 1066.)

No, it's not just you...I noticed those ads between posts, too...
I think it's gremlins.

I was foolish and tried to change my avatar and now can't get my teddy bear back. I don't know what's happened, but it's not gremlins, it's Anti-Michaels!

I was going to start a thread about this, but it's supposed to be a temporary thing, and everything is supposed to be back to "normal" April 16th. Seems some people were having trouble with the Google Ads expanding the width of their screens, so ProBoards is trying out placing them between posts. I THINK I understand that on Apr. 16th, we will have a choice of placement. Here's the ProBoards link that explains this. I haven't had time to really look at it, so if you see something that will correct my understanding, please post it. Thanx. PS: "Windows 1066"?

What IS that figure in the ad on our front page -- the "IMVU" ad? It looks like a very well-endowed woman lying on her back. They are advertising instant messaging "and more." What's the "more"?
