Hey trusty, I like this board. I am wondering how public it is? That is to say, I want it to be very accessible to everyone. How's the average APHC listener going to find us?
Also, there are so many different thread lines, with, I'm assuming sub-threads (potentially) in each of those. I'd prefer fewer. That way, there's less clicking. Sometimes my (cable-fed) connection is too slow. I can't imagine how sluggish it will/would be for dial-up folks.
Do I need to sign my name? Or is that automatic? Guess I'll soon find out. slb2

Hey, slb2! You and I are probably the only ones here now. This place is not officialy open yet. Anyway, Look around and test it out (I'm still learning how to "drive" it. ) I sent a message to Julia S. this morning. She was very supportive in her reply, but said she wasn't the APHC web manager (I guess no one is, now. (?)). But, she said she would pass it on and give it a good word. If it is approved, this place will continue to evolve as more suggestions come in on this board. If I don't hear from anyone by the end of the day, I may post this address on Yahoo so it may get more support. I don't want anyone to think I'm in "competetion" with you or Mike. (I emailed him, too, with this site address, but I don't know when he gets on his computer in Japan.) He is doing his part to help at Gather.com. But Gather is - well, Gather. It has limitations that this board doesn't have, and I would hate for us to get locked into something not quite as versitale. (I'm not changing my underwear there, either :-) To answer your questions, this is a public board - accessible to anyone who had the address. As that's where the rub may come in. We are going to need everyone to encourage APHC to promote this board on its site. It can be done - if done in a thoughtful and mature way. Once they give approval, we'll notify everyone to come together in one place. Hopefully, what is expressed on this board will be an asset to them, and they will want to help us There will not be as many diferent boards as there are now here. I copied what was on the old Chatterbox and added a couple to make it more versatile (like this thread we are on now). We may not need different threads about the show and performers if APHC wan't to keep charge of that. (Also, we propaly don't need a seperate thread for Jokes.) I am awary of "fractionalizing" the place too much, but I don't want to give room for frustration, either; that's why I seperated Chit-Chat into seperate groups (Who's gonna want to give out his or her recipies on the Current & Political Events board? The reasoning behind someone doing that will become obvious, and it eventually just won't happen. (Plus, the recepies can be moved to the Personal or Advice board in Chit-Chat. Hopefully, good healthy political discussions will not be interrupted.) I pray this is seen as an improvement. So, check it out. I may have to import spell-check from another part of the ProBoards site, but I KNOW they have it because the main ProBoards site has it. (I'll delibertally misspell a werd to see if it pops up when I hit "Post Reply". If it doesn't, I'll just have to go find it.) You may C&P this post on Yahoo if you wish - I'm just too sensitive about "tooting my own horn" at this stage of the game (but I don't want this forum to be "mine"; I want to work myself out of a job if I can.) We're at a very sensitive time in our community development (boy, THAT sounded "corporate :-), but we need to get back together in a place where we'll have a lot of fun and no sysop. Gotta get back to work. (I think I'm gonna color this place green..... )

I thinkz I found the spell check - right in front o' my eyes. Ah HA! It's not on the Quick Reply. It has to be a full-fledged reply - between the Preview & Reset buttons on the bottom.

Okay boys, let's go with this board. There's been enough dissatisfaction with Yahoo.groups. And I am completely not happy with Gather.com as a cyber-community forum, so I think we ought to make the switch. I will leave up the yahoo.groups site with a huge note in the welcome introduction to join us here. That'll be one way for the public to find us. And we could have a link over at Gather as a second way for folks to find us. And we can occassionally write a PTTH with a mention of our group, in a by-the-way fashion. And we'll have to rely on word of mouth/e-mail. Heh, heh. We can make up business cards advertizing our site and I can go over to Keillor's new bookstore and discretely leave them lying around.

Here's what I need. An entire thread dedicated to poetry. Did I miss it? I don't feel like starting up poetry in the misc. thread. Could you, trusty?

Trusty, this is fabulous!!! Thank you so very much for all of your efforts!
I like this layout, too, and I did not particularly care for Gather or Yahoo, either. Yahoo was just too darn confusing for me and Gather seems, well, bizarre. I am not looking to make random connections to other miscellaneous people (à la MySpace), nor do I wish to be solicited to join various groups at the whim of their creator (I don't answer the door for Jehovah's Witnesses, either). This seems familiar and very simple to navigate.
Kudos to everyone for their efforts to hold this group together after our unceremonious eviction.

Interesting. J* was able to post as a guest. Do you think that this will lead to oodles of hit and run posters?
Also, what exactly does it mean regarding "Exalt" and "Smite" in each poster's little identification box? And how does one acquire Karma? (I am assuming this is something one might wish to acquire.)
I'd check out that Help function, but it took forever to load the last time I wandered in there.

Didja see that trusty-baby made me a moderator?! (OhMan, I wonder what work that entails?) Merci beaucoup, homme! (Do ya think that's how they say man [as in, Can ya dig it, man?] in French?) Do you think I'm dating myself with these colloquial words? Well, even if I am dating myself, at least I'm dating someone! As to the karma points, lirio, I don't know what they mean, but somehow I acquired one!! Wheeee My editor just gave me until tomorrow morning, sharp, for my last story. You know what that means, don't you? I get to play for a few hours so that I can write my story by the midnight bulb!

Much better than FEMA could have done and in less than a week. The Old Cafe has been rebuilt faster, stronger, better able to serve this lowly denizen. Now the problem is to be "interesting" and not be a "dopey crony", so I don't get kick out to the curb again. I have been kicked out of better places than the "Cafe formerly named the Chatterbox".

I love your epaulets!!!

leave it to lirio to make me run to my dictionary. How did you decide that epaulet could be used to identify _E_'s running headline? Hmmm. That could sound aggressive. I don't mean that in a dueling way, but more that I am curious how you took a word that might be applicable and MADE it appropriate.
And for that make _E_, how did you make that running headline?

Yep, all those stars next to your name reminded me of epaulets on a military uniform. Ever seen a general up close and personal?
Perhaps I need to exalt you now.

Is there a way of checking out "most recent posts" or "View posts since your last visit"?

I've found the answer to the "most recent posts" question, but when I clicked on the "Creative" thread, I was sternly told I did not have authority to be there.
Does this site consider me not to be creative?
That's clever.

Congratulations, home-makers. Honors to all who've busted their butts to keep a cb home somewhere - and kept in touch with and included all of us, no matter how uncertain or wander-y some of us (me) have been. Blessings - Carolion

I'm going to try an experiment. I'm going to go to another website without logging off here. I'll be back to check in about 4 or 5 hours from now. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate it if anybody who sees this would check back on the home page and tell me if I'm still shown as on line. Not that it really matters, but it would be interesting to know what that little item actually records.
