Thanks, lirio. I've exalted you for that.
Actually, it's a good thing that I didn't show up as online when I was away at another website. It means that people won't be misled into thinking that someone is right there when they aren't.

Everyone should be able to participate in the Creative thread now. I apparently had butterfingers when I was there last time and made it a "Staff Only" site (or slb2 got jealous and wanted the poetry thread all to herself - don't think so.) I haven't had time to check all the quirks or features of this Forum yet (I want to know some answers, too!) Please click the "Help" button up top and check the little tutorial. They have some FAQ's here, too (I'll post them when I find them again.) Thanx.

I have noticed that it is hard to skulk about on this site. I like to check in and read, but quite often do not respond. Now I will be visible, if only as a shadow in the corner of your eye. _E_

OK, I feel like I am being ignored already. I posted two questions yesterday, and I see no response from the two moderators.... (1) IF a person becomes a member, do they have to type the "Security Check" each time they want to post a message? (If so seems a bit awkward) (2) Do boards or threads refresh automatically or do you have to hit refresh constantly like during a live show in the old chatterbox. The old chatterbox had less 'stuff' during a show chat.. basically you saw line after line of text and a box at the bottom when you wanted to add something. But you had to hit the refresh key periodically to see what everyone else was saying. On this new system, if we were all sitting and talking about a live show, are we going to have to hit refresh to see what is happening? And if we want to reply, are we going to get carried out to this lengthy "Post Reply" screen with all the bells and whistles in order to merely say a one word greeting? (If so, it is a bit awkward). Sorry to be so long winded. Certainly the look and feel of this new prairieChatter is very inviting for keeping in touch and posting messages about life, but as for an interactive dialogue that is as close to real time as possible so as to carry on a conversation in cyberspace, it seems to not have the functionality of the old place. Comments Anyone??

Well, I'm nobody official, but I can tell you that as a registered member I do not have to type that security check each time I post. I think I had to type it once when I registered, but that was it.
I'm not sure what the protocol will be for chatting during the broadcast. I think there was some talk of using a chat room. However, as near as I can tell, there are two options for replying to a message on this forum. The reply button at the top of the screen seems to give you all the bells and whistles (boldface, underline, smilies, etc.) while the quick reply box at the bottom just lets you type your response and send it. The latter might be more useful if you simply want to send a quick message, such as those posted during the broadcast.
Does this help?

I wonder how people not invited directly will ever find this place? How would "newbies" get from the "Gather" place or the old "Cafe" to here?
Just wonderin'

I really am nuts to stick around here, but I need to do my part or trusty will fire me. guest, I think that lirio answered your questions as well as I could do. Thanks lirio, I'll exalt you in a minute.
Trusty's set up a chat room, so we'll have to test it out and see how it flies.
_E_, good question. When I have a minute, I'll be posting a link at the yahoo.groups site to this place. And I'll ask mike to post a link at his gather.com chatterbox site, too.
And I am serious about getting something up at Keillor's bookstore. Lots of stores have bulletin boards at the entrance. No reason I can't put up a nice poster/flyer about our group. GK might take it down, but if I ask first, it might be okay. Hey, I know. I'll offer to do a reading at his bookstore, on the house. (they're all on the house) hee hee

More questions ...
Suppose I post something that Trusty agrees with. He replies with a kind post that sez he agrees with my post. Then I modify my post to say something totally off the wall that Trusty disagrees with.
What happens to Trusty's post of agreement? Will this result in "Modifing Wars" to see who we can suck into a quagmire of false statements. _E_

Is there any way to make the page come up to show the end of the discussion on the last page of the discussion? It would make it quicker to get to where the people are talking, and if you needed to review the discussion before joining in you could backtrack. It would make it easier to go back and forth. Thanks I've never seen a forum that had that feature, and I assume there is a reason for it. It may have to perform like a "search" function where the word you are looking for would pop up even in the middle of the page. However, if the feature is made available, it should be a user-defined function because there may be just as many people who don't want the feature as that do. The way I work around it is to use my "home" and "end" keys on my keyboard. I go to a page and immediately hit the "end" key to hop to the last post; it's habit now. So, in a way it IS a user-programmable item involving the "home" & "end" keys. (Psst...did I BS my way out of that one?? I didn't? Rats. OK, I don't know.)

TRusty, maybe I am not reading carefully, but can't one just click on "new" to get to the new parts of the discussion? the new posts that have been added since the last time the user accessed the discussion?

falco — bl is right. I just tested it with her latest post on Karma Ratings. I clicked on the word NEW in the little cartouche, and it brought up the last post on the thread.
Of course, this only works when "NEW" shows in a topic, which is when you haven't already gone to it since the latest post was made. If there is nothing new since the last time you looked at the topic, I guess Trusty's method (which I haven't tested) is the way to go.

Trusty's method works for me as well. I'm not sure what he means about the "home" key. All I did was click on the "Page 3" between the brackets of a topic with three pages, and when the page came up, hit my "end" key, and — voilà — the end of the page. Just a very short scroll up to the latest post.

Why, Dang! I hadn't thought of that. I thought it was just to notify you there were new posts. But, nooooo ... The more I deal with this place the cooler it gets. The Support team is loaded with tons of kids that spend their time writing computer programs for message boards and not afraid to show them off. They have contests all the time, and love to help people like me. I guess I should EXPECT the new button to do something more than sit there.

There is no reason for this post other than to change the total "post" number that appears for this particular forum on the first page of prairieCHATTER.
Just a thing I have.

However, it sounds like you might want to add it to your list of lenten deprivations. Go to the home page. Drop down to the ”THE WEBSITE” and look at “Forum Discussions & Ideas”. Look over at the column titled “Posts”. The number should be “683”. Apparently, it was the wonderful “666” for a long time. (Personally, I gave up the Beast for Lent.)
