Perhaps someone recalls the show Gk aired in GA about a year or so back. I believe it was Atlanta, but I can't be certain. In any case, there were several drunken buffoons in the crowd who created quite a disturbance, lamented Gk. He apologized to his fans through his web page and said he'd never return to that particular venue. I thought the thing kind of odd, as it wasn't readily apparent to this listener that there were loud mouths in the audience. Doubtless, owing to proximity, the entertainers were more shaken than we listeners. Though GA is a hop, skip, and a jump, I'll be mowing the lawn and making ribs for two boys of sound character. If you go, enjoy. But be wary of rednecks, white socks, and Blue Ribbon beer.

This venue looks to be quite the place. Brand new, beautiful, sounds great... Though I can't get over the freight trains running down the middle of the street - that's something I haven't seen before! I counted four over the course of last night. Very odd to see them blowing through the stoplights, horns blaring, swooshing right past the parked cars...

Had a nice walk in the drizzle yesterday along the Chattahoochie River Walk - lots of cool historic sites and a bunch of birds I've not identified as of yet. The rain has moved on and today is gorgeous - low 80s, sunny, not too humid. We had lunch at an unremarkable place where it took almost an hour to bring us soup, salads and sandwiches, right next to the "Disco Fashions" store...

The gang's in Georgia this week. Are peaches really already in season? I love peach pie. Norman and Nancy Blake will sing some old-time country and old-time master fiddler James Bryan and his daughter, guitarist and singer, Rachel Bryan will also tune up on the show. I do not know the Bryans, so this will be a treat to discover someone(s) new. Fred Newman will be goofing around with GK instead of Tom Keith. And darn it, I'd really like to know when APHC will have some Cajun back on the show. They're right next to N.O. with their jazz fest and heritage show. And Lafayette just finished up their Francophone musical extravaganza... I know, I know. I should rant elsewhere.

… Though I can't get over the freight trains running down the middle of the street - that's something I haven't seen before! I counted four over the course of last night. Very odd to see them blowing through the stoplights, horns blaring, swooshing right past the parked cars... The 19th century map which serves as the endpaper of In Search of Lake Wobegon shows the railway running alongside the street in Freeport, MN, between the roadway and the buildings along one side of the street. GK writes, "Freeport was a railroad town and the tracks ran along the south side of Main Street, and now the tracks are gone, and the one-sided Main Street remains…." There is a picture of the block of the north side of Main Street which includes the Pioneer Inn (apparent inspiration for the Sidetrack Tap) and Charlie's Cafe on pp. 52-53, and a photo of some of the customers in the booths inside Charlie's on p. 68. So I guess GK will feel at home with the train tracks in the street.

Well, wasn't Misery's last name Chastain?

For the first time in weeks, I'm not in class or working at show time. I am, however, in the Courtyard Marriott in Omaha, where my laptop and their internet access refuse to communicate. If I can either 1) get my Treo to work as the modem, or 2) cross the street and move into the Hilton by 5 pm, I'll be on the show thread today.
Seems it would have been easier to travel to Georgia...Sometimes the information highway is just a dirt road. Sigh - oh for some Xanax Salad Sprinkles.

Surely there is a library somewhere in Omaha with wi-fi. If not, there's always Starbucks. They might even slip some Xanax sprinkles into your Tazo Chai Tea Latte if you slip them something extra.

Librarys close by 5:00 on a Saturday so the librarians can go home to listen to APHC, lirio. You knew that, right? Omaha is in the Central Time Zone, so our show starts at five o'clock in the afternoon.

Bonjour, m'amie et mes amies. I wonder if Trusty is at the show. And how close are they to that dreadful fire? I just don't think of Georgia having fires.

You're with us but where are you actually, K? Who got you wired? I threatened to check out unless they moved me to a room right over their router/server. Previoiusly "unavailable," such a room magically appeared. I'm still working on the Verizon/Treo wireless, but this is working fine. And I think the fires are near Waycross, Georgia (southeast), while Columbus is west, near the Alabama line. So I think they are all safe.

While the Band Was Playing Dixie - I love that kind of alto line. Nobody writes decent alto lines anymore. Fortunately I can often do the tenor line. Or even drop the descant an octave.
Oh, mercy. They're doing it again. This world of mine in the green summer time...

Nice harmonica. I wonder if my brother-in-law is listening. He likes this show and plays the mouth organ.

Hi Jay!
I'm feeling better too. A little help from my friends, and the music.
