A Prairie Home Companion is in New York this week. I don't think my teddy bear is listed as playing with the Shoe Band, but maybe?
Very cool Stuart Duncan will be fiddling around on stage with a jazz tuba (Howard Johnson) and Gravity. And I've heard of Karan Casey, but can't quite place her voice. She's Irish, none the less. (is that one word?)
Fred Newman will be making a fool of himself and getting paid for it. Along with the regulars of Sue and Tim and the Shoes. I 'spose Pat will be there for bookie.

I'm excited. I haven't been able to hear the show for a couple of weeks. Last year at this time I was really quite a new fan and I loved those shows from New York. I remember the Guy Noir skit where Tim was the guy named Joey Roast Beef or something like that having been hit by a snowball. And the Cowboys were mistaken for "partners."

Got home from 4:00 Mass, and my brother was running water in the kitchen to soak some pots & pans I had left on the stove, and a lyric came to mind:
Hear that water flowing In the kitchen sink. Why don't we go and Fix ourselves a drink.
O my sweet, sweet someone, Slipping to the floor, It's Saturday night, The show is playing, Honey could we ask for more?

So, BL, what's the problem with WGBH? Not getting the right show?

Yes. Well …
I assume they'll be doing their usual thing, making the show last until 9:00 and inserting pledge breaks.
I've got to go out to a "Christmas" (in the middle of Advent!) party at 7:00, and will catch the rest of the show tomorrow.
Meanwhile, bl, if you can listen to the rebraodcast, I recommed switching to WCRB at 8:00 this evening for "El Niño" from Symphony Hall — a modern take on the Nativity.

For the first time, this year, I took note of December 7, the anniversary of pearl Harbor, and its juxtaposition to December 8, the date John Lennon died.
"In My Life" - one of my favorites. I was living in NYC when the Rubber Soul album came out. Memories...

Well, they delayed the start of the show by a few minutes with their pledge break, but then they seemed to sign off for the night instead of their usual interruptions every few minutes. I don't know what they are doing. Maybe I'll have to go back and remove a few of the mad faces. In the meantime, I love Fred as much as I love Pat. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Why is it questionable for Joe to go to a party during Advent? I only know that about Lent.

Post by doctork on Dec 9, 2006 18:18:23 GMT -5
Guessing - is it because it's a "Christmas party" that actually occurs during Advent? Technically Christmas refers to December 25 and the next 11 - 12 days?
Theology consult needed.

Maybe Joe thinks it should be an Advent party until Dec. 24 or 25, at which time people can hold Christmas parties for 12 days or so. I dunno.

Okay to go to parties. I just wish Christmas parties could be during the 12 days of Christmas (Dec. 25 — Jan. 5).

Some people would say I need ketchup.
Might prevfent me always wanting to try new things, go new places.
Perpetual flatness won't work for me however.

When we lived in New Orleans, there were lots of Christmas festivities that lasted through Epiphany.
Then of course in New Orleans, the pre-Mardi Gras festivities begin on Jan 6.
Always a party in NOLA.

My old buddy Carlyle played baritone horn with the US Army Field for almost 30 years. He has an actual, Honest-to-God double-belled euphonium. An amazing instrument.

Bookie, you're way ahead of me on literature, history, and of course anything related to Boston and the Red Sox!
My son has applied to BU - I may become more familiar with Boston in the future.
