All the years we lived in Denver, our across-the-alley neighbor was a WW I vet. He told our kids lots of stories (only good ones), but I think my husband loved to listen to Charlie even more than the kids.

doctork, the story is that a major supporter had a phone argument with an official of the school he was going to give the $20 mil to and decided to step down from the board and take his money with him elsewhere. Short temper I suppose

My condolences on the loss of your brother kitehill. Not all the war casualties occur on the battlefield. My posthumous thanks for his service for our country.

My brother (Skip) never accepted help from the VA but he deserved it and needed it. Too much pride

Feeling honored - maybe that's why GK's suggestion that we support the troops when they get back, not just while they are overseas.

Vets in our city have to drive to Seattle (over 90 miles) to get their VA care. Our Congressman and Seanators are fighting to get them a clinic closer to home.

Hawaii is a relatively small place - especially among kamaainas (those who have been around a while). The cousins/sisters probably really are.

A Vet that goes to church where I attend drives 160 miles to Jacksonville Florida to the naval base to get pills. Don't know if that is the only place he can go but for some reason he does.

Well, just caught up reading through the thread. I'm enjoying the show. Really liked the guitarist, the News, and the hymn. Gotta sugn off now and get back to the kitchen, but I'll still be listening.

DW - the Jax NAS is a big installation, but I'm surprised he can't get his meds in Orlando - isn't that closer? But the reason vets drive so far is because they get their meds for free or $5 a script, instead of hundreds, or even thousands. Worth the trip.
