I wonder if the reason for the pronunciation is that the name Favre is French. In that case, the r is one of those ones that tend to disappear after a consonant at the end of a word (as in centre, poudre, or Montmartre). If that is so, the insertion of an r before the v is an error (overcompensation or dylsexia maybe) and a Boston accent which can't pronounce r before another consonant gets it right!

Baltimore's kicker just missed an easy field goal. Minnesota wins. Hope gail doesn't have too much of a shellac buzz going to appreciate it!

We haven't gotten to the inhaling VOCs point yet, and we took yesterday off for yardwork in this brief gift of fine weather. Jerry taped the game (though he cheated and checked the score now and then), so he was able to see that last quarter in all its adrenaline-pumping tumult. He came upstairs (no, I wasn't watching) to tell me that he was exhausted and Favre saved the game and the defense were all low-life slackers, etc. I said just think how bad that Colt kicker must feel and the anguish of his mom, dad, sibs and girlfriend. Sometimes I am so like the nuns of my childhood I amaze myself.

Hey, Mike! Are you having fun yet? The Vikings (led by You-Know-Who) are waxing Da Bears, and I don't mean the good kind.
But, isn't it tomorrow morning at your house? How do you watch these NFL games?
Anyway, just thinking about you and Brett Favre having a good time.

If the Vikes are waxing Da Bears, the 49ers are positively dermabrading the Jaguars. Yay for Singletary.

I'm 54 and still having fun but not out on a football field getting my a$$ kicked! All the best, Mike

People here are pretty excited about the Saints. I even have become sort of interested, after they kicked the Patriots' butts last week.

They still hold a spot in my heart, as they were an expansion team when we lived there. Meanwhile, the Steelers are choking big time...cannot believe this.

Like a flash across the universe! Mark McGwire admits to using steroids What a shocker!
I am... wondering if anyone really cares? Was there any doubt otherwise from the beginning?

Hmmmm . . . Nope, Mike, I don't think anyone is surprised. The only surprising thing is that he actually admitted it, in my book.
Clearly he had to wait long enough that he could work up the tears and choking speech that accompanied his third refusal into the Hall of Fame.
And it's too bad, now, because he's right. He can't turn back time. And everything he did in his baseball career doesn't count now. The questions remain: who else has gotten credit for steroid-enhanced productivity? And if it doesn't count for McGwire, it can't count for anyone else either.
I hope he has a good time being a hitting coach.

This one's for you, Mike.
On ABC's Good Morning America, they titled the McGwire story, "Basball's Worst Kept Secret."
The three lines that caught my attention were:
1 - If you are going to apologize for using steroids, but then state that the steroids did not enhance your performance, you just negated the apology,
2 - That's like apologizing for the sky being blue,
and 3 - {drum roll please!} Hey! There's no crying in baseball!

Yeah, Babe, worst kept indeed.
But, I will say that despite his obviously being a steroid user, he did come clean about it and I applaud him for that.
Confession is good for the soul, or so I've heard.

Although McGwire is now widely and overtly acknowledged as a liar and a cheat, I don't think his records and awards have been rescinded. Have they?
It was my impression that he "came clean" only in hopes of admission into the Hall of Fame. That seems self-serving and insincere to me, not a real confession or apology.
