So, give us the scoop on how you view yourself in the mirror. Except I included heart as a physical part, not your heart as a mirror to your soul.

So, give us the scoop on how you view yourself in the mirror. Except I included heart as a physical part, not your heart as a mirror to your soul. Do you mean;"Do these jeans make m y butt look fat?" Or, is my hair parted straight? No problem, here. My but IS fat, and I've no hair. So, I guess them mirror is not my enema.........uhhh........enemy. ~B~

My question does look odd. I ask "if you could change one thing about yourself..." and then allow for two answers. Personally, one thing I'd change is my heart. I wish it was stronger and more steady.

I'd change my weight. I'm always trying to, but.....
And I'd change my knees because they are so badly damaged that every step hurts.
But otherwise I like myself reasonably well. And, you know, I live by Harry Chapin's wisdom, which is that "I know I'm not no beauty queen, but I sure do listen good."

I think I'm going to change my answer. I would change to have a body like a female beach volleyball player. Seriously, the one constant all my life has been to wish my eyes were different, both cosmetically and functionally. I would love to know what it's like to look another person in the eyes without being painfully aware that one of mine is looking slightly (or more than slightly, if I'm tired) askew, but also I long to know what the world really looks like when viewed with two cooperating, focusing eyes.

Astounding. I never noticed anything odd about your eyes. In fact I sort of don't believe you. But it could be no one notices because of your 100 watt smile. As for the eyes not working great, I can sure sympathize. My eyes were normal till - right on schedule - at 40, I started needing readers. They've gone from bad to worse, so I'm one of the grumpies who complain about the criminally small print on boxes and directions and even fabric labels. Ladies, next time you shop, notice that Liz Claiborne's fabric and cleaning instructions are pale grayish print on black shiny nylon. There's a reason for that - the company doesn't want you to see "dry clean" till you get home. I'd like to be as skinny as I was 20 years ago. I'd like to have a straight back. But mostly, I'd like to be able to sing. Does that fit in this poll?

It says, "If you were a regular user, results for this poll would have been hidden until you had voted." The results were not hidden before I voted. This raises the questions: what is a regular user, and what would it take for me to become one?
Anyway I chose weight and face. Id like to be about 20 pounds lighter, but not strongly enough to make me stop eating. And it was kind of a toss-up between face and hair. I'm not sure if it is the thinning hair that is the principal reason the face looks incongruous to me, or whether it's the extra weight which makes it fatter than it was when I was good-looking that is the more important factor.

//than it was when I was good-looking //
This is a reality only some of us here understand. No one is prepared for it, so you youngsters should heed what Joe says. The time will come when you simply can't avoid the truth in the mirror. I tell myself this is one of those passages everyone (who is lucky enough to live several decades) must traverse, and the more gracefully, the better. But it is SO HARD! you don't feel a day over 30 (for me it's 19) but there are the tracks on your face, immutable and inescapable.
Corollary: Jerry likes oldies radio stations, especially while working. We've been painting the living room and trying to trade off on radio stations, but I've listened to a lot of songs from my past. I love them. But it came to me yesterday in an epiphany I did not enjoy, that these songs aren't about me anymore.
I felt like Doria Gray.

I'd forgotten all about my own functionality! Your comment, books, reminded me. And while I would like to have two ears (yes, I only have one, both cosmetically and functionally), I'd still rather have a heart not destined to congestive heart failure and knees not plagued with arthritis. And I also will admit that I had noticed, gk, when I met booklady, that her eyes were unique. But then I figured that that fact matched the rest of her, esp. her mind! She's adorable and treasured just as she is. I used to think I'd like to change my weight, until I realized that, in fact, I could change my weight.

I just read that vitamin K is good for joints. Green leafy veggies. As for your heart, slb, I'm sorry you have that worry. I'm sure you're doing all you can. Does your doctor help with good prevention tips? I've been getting hints about health from a site that is ostensibly run by doctors. That's where the Vit.K info came from. You can check it out and do a an assessment of your overall health here: www.RealAge.comBe ready with the labels on any supplements you take. And pay attention! I apparently checked the wrong box on sleep habits, as it came back advising me to get a lot more sleep. Maybe I should up my naps to 2 a day.

I checked out the website and the questions seemed reasonable, though I have to wait 1 - 2 hours to get my "RealAge" by email.
I recall reading the reviews of the docs' book, and I think they were okay.
Regarding knee pain/arthritis, Chondroitin sulfate (1200 mg) and glucosamine (1500 mg) have been shown to be effective for many people. They're sold in the vitamin and food supplement area of many stores; I take the recommended dose daily, as I've had a torn meniscus problem with one knee, and I do not wish to have any more preventable problems with it. (I already know from the arthroscopy that the knee is arthritic.)

10/4 on the Glucosamine/Chondroitin. My dog and I started on it at the same time....different suppliers, of course.

My dog and I used the same supplier. It was a ritual every afternoon to grind up the tablets and give some to her and some to me in juice. (Since I can't swallow pills I always have to powder them.) That was Nelly the terribly arthritic Beagle who got a couple extra years because of gluc/chon - she lived to 17!

I did the glucosamine/chondroitin schtick for years and it did the trick. I maintain with exercise and stretching. Now I'm supplementing with Zyflamend PM, which has a bevy of herbal extracts most importantly holy basil and tumeric and baikal skullcap.

I grown accustomed to my face… it’s what’s under it that I’d like to change.
I’ve got a unique double chin. When I look in the mirror, I don’t see it. But, whenever I see myself in a picture, there it is.
