I read about this today and, being me, had to try it, and now I'm hooked. And I have a feeling you will be, too. Go to FreeRice.com. It's a wonderful way to donate food for the hungry AND improve yourself at the same time, you will undoubtedly find you are much smarter than you think you are. (And that is always a good thing.) And it's easy. It's a vocabulary thing (yeah, I was, still am, addicted to the Reader's Digest improve your vocabulary thing....) and it's so simple, they give you a word and four possible answers. You click on the one you think it is. If you get it right, 20 grains of rice will be donated to the UN Hunger Project. And I know, 20 grains doesn't sound like much, but you can play as often and as long as you wish. I got up to 7800 grains of rice during an absolutely DEAD there was nothing else to do time here at the library. AND if you get it wrong, no matter, they give you the answer and you try again. Somewhere down the line that same word will be recycled and you'll get another chance at it, only the answers will be in different order or something. So you are sharpening your brain skills, too....it's all good! I got up to level 48 before I had to come here and tell you about it. I think it goes to level 60... ANYWAY. I have been clicking daily on the Hunger Site for about 10 years, you know, where you donate a cup of food a day with that one click. But this is something more I can do. (And...as a writer....my vocabulary is purty good. Try it! And tell me what you think.

Good grief, this is addictive. I got up to 48 and missed on quiff. Several before that were lucky guesses, but I blew it on quiff. I wish you could go back and look over all the words so you could really learn them, but then how often could they be useful? Btw, quiff means upswept front hair.
I found this category looking for some place to put cool science reports. But, since I don't look at the board's last 25 posts as a way of starting out, I miss things at the bottom of the screen. so maybe I don't want to put cool stuff down so far.
This is a test. How many people read this on June 10???

I think I read this on June 3, but today is the first time I've gone to the free rice site and tried it out.
Here's what is really weird - I got up to level 47 (and 1280 donated grains of rice) in just a few minutes. I'm no writer, and despite my dilettante interests, my worldview is narrowly focused on medicine and life sciences vocabulary, but I guessed a lot of words correctly.
I think the key for me is that medical terminology is based on Latin and Greek, so one can often determine a meaning from a Classic language root. For example, one question was plumbism (lead poisoning). The periodic table symbol for lead is Pb, based on "plumb," the Latin (I think) root for lead.
It was fun, and for a good cause. It takes quite a bit of time and effort to donate a day's supply of 2,100 calories, but every little bit counts. "The mightiest river is made uop of many raindrops."

I just read it! Again! And DocK is right. If you look at the words for a second or two, you can often see the root of it, and figure out what it might be. I could spend way too much time there but I justify it by saying I am doing a good thing for someone else, so it's all good.... like, today's time netted somebody(s) 5,000 grains of rice. In a surprisingly short time. ;D

If someone likes to while away their time doing word games, then no problem. For me, I prefer to waste time playing cards or mahjong titans. And I don't do that very often, either.

Is today June 10? Tuesday, June 10? Well, I'm reading it today, Tuesday, June 10 or not. I usually check in a few times a day, but I don't respond as often as I check. (Does that make sense?)
I like the rice game. My grandson plays it a lot and loves donating rice.
