OK, got it. Wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Messy desk. Sittin' at the computer.
So what do you hear? (Right this very minute.)
I hear the buckles on Pete's overalls banging around in the dryer. (Pete's not currently wearing them.) I hear the lawnmower (it's supposed to rain tomorrow so Bill's mowing today). I hear the dishwasher running. I hear the click of the keys. Just turned off NPR.

Tick of the battery-operated clock on the corkboard. Pilot light (or something) in the water heater or furnace, occasional tapping of the anti-backdraft flap in the flue. Occasional passing car.

The hum from the fan on my laptop. A car in the distance. But mostly birds - lots and lots of birds - making so darn much noise that they woke me before my alarm did.

It's time for Louisiana Rhythms on KFAI radio and I've the volume set at 22. Yesterday, for comparison's sake, I was dancing to BeauSoleil with the volume ramped up to zero. I think the number indicates that one can hear X-number of other things when the volume is at that particular level. So, I guess I can hear up to twenty-two other things right now and, in fact, I can hear my tinnitus quite clearly. I can also hear the computer keys clacking and a low rumble of a jet overhead. I also hear in my head the words I'm typing. What's the difference between hearing one's self-talk and hearing others talking? I mean, how does the brain differentiate? Just curious, no need to try to answer, esp. if you don't know the answer. btw, Pop Wagner is today's substitute host and he started up the show with Suzie-Q by Boozoo Chavis. And right now it's the Pine Grove Blues. Yeah, baby. ThoS, Pop will be a part of that show in mid-July with GK, won't he? Guess I could look that up.
