The variety of quality musicians that are touring and performing past the age of 65 continues to amaze me. I'm sure that some performers just cannot imagine not doing what they have been doing for many years, but I would think most would prefer to slow down and enjoy a life with family, friends, and more leisure time. Jerry Douglas is 67 and headed on a British tour and then shows in the US, including three in Florida in February.

If you love your work then why not? For actors and musicians I think many love their work and that's why they keep at it.
I love my work and would love to be back in practice if I could. However given my husbands health I could probably work only part time. Despite all the boohoo ing about lack of primary car docs, corporate medicine ( its all corporate now) wants nothing to do with old docs or part timers.
S'OK I have gotten to like the slower lifestyle and it is probably better that way.

I appreciate when folks who are happy and enjoying life just keep on going, I'm certainly much happier that I am not still working in my old state job. I am enjoying helping people and having freedom to do what I do. I had coffee with a former colleague who has been on Family Medical Leave caring for her young daughter who had to have some significant spinal surgery... her daughter is doing very well, but Mom is struggling because so many changes at work have made her feel that she will not have a job that is anything like what she wants when she returns in January.

There are a lot of changes going on in most places. I think I've been happiest when self employed in my own practice but sadly that is no longer feasible financially. And it was longer hours tho more rewarding.
Also, being a licensed professional may give one a little more k leeway. Many constraints cited by MDs but still - when the exam room door is clised, its the same critical doctors patient relationship. A very privileged and always interesting endeavor.
