NATHAN GUNN Metropolitan Opera baritone Nathan Gunn has appeared in renowned opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Paris Opera, and the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. He is also a professor of voice at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, his alma mater. At the piano: Julie Jordan Gunn.
Peter Sagal Peter Sagal’s career has included stints as a playwright, screenwriter, stage director, actor, extra in a Michael Jackson video, travel writer, essayist, ghostwriter, and staff writer for a motorcycle magazine. But public radio listeners know him best as host of NPR's hugely popular quiz program, Wait Wait... Don’t Tell Me!
LERA LYNN When Lera Lynn was about six, it suddenly occurred to her how to sing harmony. From then on, singing became a constant pursuit. This Nashville-based, Georgia-bred singer-songwriter has made her mark in the music world and amassed a following with her haunting voice and award-winning compositions. American Songwriter magazine wrote that that she can “write a damn good song ... she can also tell a damn good story.”

Hey, folks. I'm going to beg off tonight. I'm sitting here after Dulcimer practice and can hardly keep my eyes open. We're getting our Christmas music ready, and it's been kind of busy around Casa Jay. So take care, enjoy the Show!

Hi y'all - DW and guests et al.
I just got in from Running Errands, including that wonderful bakery I recently discovered. Came home with Cinnamon Chip Bread, cheese & garlic loaf, frosted cinnamon blueberry buns (two, one for each of us so there is not fighting), and some Pecan Shortbread cookies.

I've been to Chicago on many occasions - usually business, occasionally included on a vacation and several times on cross-country moves. Convenient airport and a really nice city with great shopping and restaurants and entertainment, but VERY COLD in the winter. Also too hot in the summer.

Well that sounds quite tasty indeed. I managed to eat two Thanksgiving meals on the same day, and did not suffer from it! And no weight gain in spite of going off the watching my carbs plan! Tonight we are enjoying some broiled oysters rockerfeller ... fresh farm raised oysters harvested from our nearby farm. Game time is chicken wings for me.. some fresh corn on the cob .. etc/

The girls took up out to a very fine dinner for Thanksgiving - one dinner quite sufficient. Except no leftovers for turkey sandwiches so I am fixing to roast the turkey breast I bought on Wednesday. They were all out of fresh ones so I had to take a frozen one.
However, since I planned to cook it this weekend it's worked our fine. It's 6 pounds and nearly fully defrosted last night, so I think I could even cook it this evening being as how we're on Left Coast time and it's only 4 pm.
We've got the Apple Cup here - UW v WSU, potentially for the Last Time since the Re-alignment though I saw a headline yesterday that there may be an extension for 5 more years of Apple Cup.

It is rivalry day all over the country. Florida State plays Florida... Florida State is undefeated and Florida has struggled, but one never knows on these games. The top teams some of which play each other suggest if Florida State wins out, they could have a shot at the national title!
We likewise had no turkey leftovers.. but not big on sandwiches anyway!

Although Florida was my legal resident for 22 years, my grandfather established his business there in the 1880's, and we visited family in Florida (mainly in Gainesville and other north Florida locales) almost every summer of my youth, I never really got attached to the state and its sports teams.
One of my longest romances was with a Florida grad (undergrad and law school) so I might have a slight preference towards Gainesville. OTOH, both Florida and Miami put me on the wait list when I applied to medical school, never advanced to acceptance at either, so I am not a fan.

I don't remember ever hitting a live skunk, but sure have smelt enough of them in my time. As a child, we had open windows most of the year and skunks just walking by in the yard at night still filled the air with a strong scent... hate to imagine being sprayed by one up close!

I applied to 11 medical schools during my senior year of college, interviewed at all of them, was wait-listed at 10 of them (including Harvard) but then was not accepted at any of them. Exceptionally bad luck I suppose. The next year I applied to 5 medical schools, was immediately accepted at one (that is unusual), and ultimately accepted at all 5, none of which was in Florida because by then I had lost my state resident preference. Why bother when Virginia had accepted me on the spot at my interview even before I established residency!?
So yes, here I am a VIRGINIAN (even if it happens I don't live there at the moment), not a Floridian, no way no how.

UW just won 24 - 21 and so they are 12 - 0 for the season, Penix, the QB, is in serious contention for the Heisman, but the west coast tends to gt overlooked; he is overcome with emotion over the victory.
UW also in contention for national championship, but again, overlooked nationally. PAC-12 was always perceived as a less competitive conference, plus nobody in the east ever sees the games because they are too late for ET zone viewers.
So - we'll see, Haven't been watching the UF - FSU game, as I was busy considering the roasting of the turkey breast in addition to The Show and The Game.

Florida State has started off slow all season long it seems. Tonight is no different. And a string of unfortunate penalties and mistakes seems to have them rattled. Gators missed a field goal but then scored a touchdown later. The night is young but for sure the Seminoles need to find their rhythm.
