Yeah, it doesn't take long to get burnt and dehydrated in that environment. You can be outrageous as long as you're careful!

Jay and I happen to know that at least some of the greetings are NOT made up. At one of the Tanglewood shows, GK read our greeting. Well, we had some help on the inside!

So in case either of you are looking to expand your palate and use some different plant products in your diet, I purchased some stone ground grits in North Carolina that are made from Heirloom Dent Corn. They have a different color and taste than commercially ground grits. They are called "Bloody Butcher" because of red flecks from the corn kernals. I got them from a company called Red Tail Grains out of Mebane, North Carolina. They use some pretty eco friendly growing practices and also the way they mill their grains preserves nutrition. Tonight's menu included grits (cooked in chicken stock) and some tuna steaks and a zucchini casserole with the last of the home grown veggies.

Our message was still real - we gave it to Thomas. I went to St. Paul one year for the opening show and street dance and it was lots of fun! However, people who were inside the theater for the show did not get any meat loaf dinner though - all the food was gone by the time the show was over when we got out on the street. The band and dancing was great, and there really was a loon calling contest. The whole thing was wrapped up at 10 pm though as required by city regulation - no noise after 10 pm. There was an old folks home nearby and they needed their sleep.

I'll have to look for those grits. A really good price online from the company, FYI.

This will sound strange but I do not like grits and I do not eat them. And though my parents were both Southerners, my mom rarely served any grits, probably why I don't like them - never ate them when I was a kid. Kinda like always living on the coast but never eating sea food. Or moving to western Washington, "the apple state" among other monikers," from NC where the big industry is apple growing. Also living in The Home of Starbucks where there are at least 2 drive-thru coffee shops on each corner I don't drink coffee. Plus fresh salmon and other fish are a big deal here and as I said I don't eat that. I the Authorities had known they would never had let me cross the state line.

There are some alternatives to grits... for example, polenta which can be chilled then dusted with flour and made into a nice crispy side dish.. and of course corn cakes (pancakes with corn flour or chilled grits).. hush puppies...cornbread ... etc. Do you not eat any form of ground corn> ?

I will always think of Kathryn Windham when I hear this song.

I rarely see corn flour or its products for sale outside the south, but if they are served, I'll eat hush puppies. And I really like cornbread.

I like grits, and so do our grandkids. And they're also fond of cornbread and cornfield beans.
