The Prairie Home season closed out most seasons with a short tour leading into the season finale around the Fourth of July. The historic Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was a favorite with its wonderful outdoor venue and lawn. This classic show originally aired on June 24, 2000, and featured Robert Lockwood Jr., Lynn Peterson, and guitarist Cliff Wittstruck sitting in with the Shoes. Highlights include a beautiful duet version of “Beautiful Ohio,” plus several well-known songs from the ’60s sung by Garrison and Lynn Peterson. Delta blues great Robert Lockwood Jr. offers up “Love in Vain.” Plus, a number of Duke Ellington tunes led by Richard Dworsky and the Guy’s All-Star Shoe Band with Cliff Wittstruck. Your toes will be tapping. There’s talk about frogs, a word from Catchup, and a new song from Lefty, as well as the latest News. www.prairiehome.org/shows/57901.htmlI won't be able to tune in live with you folk as I am celebrating a birthday with one of the grandchildren! They just keep getting older!!

Robert Lockwood Jr. Robert Lockwood Jr. was a Delta blues musician who was taught to play the guitar by legendary blues musician Robert Johnson, and Lockwood used his early blues training to create his own jazz-inspired sound that garnered much acclaim. Over his 70-plus-year recording career, he played with many of the blues legends, including B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and Johnny Shines, among others. Robert Lockwood passed away in 2006. Among his many accolades are two W.C. Handy Awards plus a posthumous Grammy Award win for Best Traditional Blues Album.
Lynn Peterson Singer-songwriter-science geek Lynn Peterson is a native Minnesotan whose career took her to New York City, where she spent eight years as a performer, composer, and studio vocalist, before returning to the Twin Cities. And the science geek part? She studied chemistry as an undergrad and now continues work focused on chemistry and sustainability.
Here is just a bit of a tune featured in this week’s The Lives of the Cowboys sketch:
You're the zip in my zipper, You're the lace in my shoe. You will always be my necessity, I'd be lost without you.
When men ride hosses, And they get nauseous, They love their sauces, And you're my Worcestershire, dear.
You're the tines on my pitchfork, You're the blade on my plow, You will always be my necessity, I'd be lost without thou.
I've got to say, dear, I've lost my way, dear, I don't need an -ism, Need a trail and you're my Chisholm.
You're the pegs on my guitar You're the lacquer and glue, You will always be my necessity, I'd be lost without you.

OK I am tuned in and listening, maybe 2 - 3 minutes late but close enough.
Has everyone been getting the emails about GK's currently scheduled concerts? I think there is one scheduled next week, maybe in Ohio.

I know who you mean, was Oklahoma Librarian of the Year one year. I just can't think of her name. Her husband died and she actually moved to Jonesborough.

Barbara McBride-Smith. She also usually at the Yarnspinners party. Maybe her husband is with the band? Here's the link to GK's schedule, including the one of the one I was thinking, which is actually in Sellersville, PA. He's even sold out a few places, not Sellersville which is likely the prompt for the email. No surprise the one in Lexington is sold out and they have added a second night - Robin and Linda Williams, are also there and it is at Lime Kiln. I'd go and even make a special trip to NoVA/Shenandoah Valley, take the grands to Robin & Linda, but I cannot tolerate another cross-country trip only a month after reunion and one week after Esalen (I am flying down to Bay Area on Monday, back Friday) for the film workshop. And "Summer Grooves." Anyway, here's GK's events page: www.garrisonkeillor.com/schedule/

Say, the Lancaster, PA show on July 29 looks good - Heather Masse, Nellie Mackay, Christine DiG, plus Fred Newman, Tim Russell, and Rich Dworsky. I was want to see the Waybacks on Aug 5 in Mt Airy or Elkin (somewhere near home in NC), and that could include Lancaster PA, NoVA for family, continue south To Richmond for family/friends there, on to the Blue Ridge for visiting my house, seeing my nephew in SW Virginia (aka RoVA) and then the Waybacks too! Gotta check that. Maybe a bit much or may be doable. We still got the wedding in upstate NY (near Saratoga) late Sep which I hope to continue on to Storytelling all in one trip.

College professors still play in bands in their spare time (our alma mater college president still plays in a garage band), but you sure remember more about the husband than I do.
I remember plenty about Kent State. Not only was I of course in college myself and protesting on our campus, but we also had Tommy the Traveller at the same time as well as bombing of the ROTC building as instigated by said Tom Traveller. One of my good friends was a student at Kent State and was crossing the campus grounds to get to class (not protesting) when the shootings occurred. His close friend was walking with him and was permanently maimed after being randomly shot by the National Guard. Ellis was physically uninjured, but the impact of seeing your fellow students mowed down by National Guard on their was to class was - impactful.
Ellis moved to San Francisco after his graduation from Kent State, where I was a frequent visitor to his various residences. But he was often called back to Ohio to be deposed and then give court testimony as a witness in the numerous trials, and on his friends behalf for various trials and suits in order for him to receive some compensation for his ongoing medical expenses related to the spinal cord injury due to the shooting, and permanent confinement to a wheelchair when he did (fortunately) recover from the acute injuries.
They were on student deferments as were most college students at the time, and many served once they graduated, unless they were fortunate to get low lottery number birthday picks.

Hello all. The birthday dinner is over, belly stuffed, grandson happy with presents... everyone caught up on gossip.. and I gave a pointer or two on checkers to some of the kiddos. The venue was Cracker Barrel where there are lots of things to keep kids occupied until the food arrives.

Hi DW, sounds like a lot of fun. Reminds me of the Chucky Cheese days. And near Bellingham, from Lynden Christian Schools' kids birthdays, the parties were often held in Canada! There was this cool place with arcades, games, roller skating, and ice skating or swimming, depending on the season. Of course that was the old days when kids could be taken across the border by the birthday child's mom with a note from the parents saying "It's OK for our kid to go to with Danny's mom for his birthday party in Canada."
Among our grands, 3 out of 4 recent birthday parties have been canceled by Covid. Maybe we can have one like yours in a few months when the next one is up.

Our grand are 5 and 8. Would you believe I offered to take them on a Disney cruise for the soon-to-be 9 year olds birthday, and parents said "No" because they would miss 4 days of school?
I offered to write a doctor's excuse to cover the absence. That same person/now mother as a 12 year old didn't mind one bit when she missed a week of school to go to France for a longer spring break!
