Greetings folks, it is the last Saturday of January already and I feel like I have not even gotten used to it being 2023 yet! This weeks show: This week show was originally on January 28, 2012 and is another winter wonder from the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, with violin virtuoso Joshua Bell, singing sisters of Soul, Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele. Saxophonist Kenni Holmen and trumpeter Steve Strand sit in with the Guy’s All-Star Shoe (and Beer) Band. Plus, Sue Scott and Tim Russell and the latest news from finally frozen Lake Wobegon. Highlights include “Rip It Up” (Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele with GK), “Jump Jive and Wail” from Pat Donohue, and a Gershwin prelude from Joshua Bell. There are sketches — Cowboys, Ruth Harrison, and Snowmen, plus a visit to the Café Boeuf. www.prairiehome.org/shows/56503.htmlSee ya on the chat hopefully?

More about this week’s featured guests: When violinist Joshua Bell was four, his parents noticed that he had fashioned a sort of musical instrument by stretching rubber bands around the handles of a chest of drawers. And since he showed this interest in music, his folks got him a small violin and signed him up for lessons. Now Bell is regarded as one of the great violinists of our time, performing with major orchestras worldwide.
Growing up in Indiana, Jearlyn Steele sang with her siblings as The Steele Children. One by one, they moved to Minnesota and started singing together again. Now music is the family business. Jearlyn also hosts Steele Talkin’, a Sunday-night radio show that originates on WCCO in Minneapolis. In the 1980s, Jevetta Steele — along with her family group, The Steeles — toured the world in the musical The Gospel at Colonus. The show had another successful run at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in 2010. And many remember Jevetta’s Academy Award-nominated performance of “Calling You,” from the film Baghdad Café.
Saxophonist Kenni Holmen is a member of The Hornheads, a Twin Cities horn ensemble, and one of the area’s most active recording and touring musicians. He has performed or recorded with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Glen Miller Orchestra, Gladys Knight, and the Reverend Billy Graham, to name a few.

Hey DW, thanks for faithfully posting the show links! How are y'all doing? We are well. Had to bring the plants in last night as we had another "freeze" but not nearly as cold as it was a few weeks back. Enjoying watching birds come and eat our bird seed as it is slim pickens except for bugs and such in our neighborhood. Today we enjoyed a private group tour of a nearby Plantation (Livingston Place) which as a large home designed by the famous architect John Russell Pope. Was a lovely day for a tour and we enjoyed a little exploration in the nearby town of Monticello and had a nice lunch. So now listening to the program and tapping along!

That's what Mike said - it's always busy. I haven't even been to Florida in ages since most of the family and friends that I knew there have either died or moved elsewhere.
The state is so different these days, but still much more than just Orlando or Miami-Dade. My family was mostly in either Jax (better known these days now that they have a good pro football team) or Pensacola.

i went back and reviewed the dialogue from the original airing of this show. There was a new person trying out to be the special effects person, I guess she did not get the job. Thomas had to back her up on a few effects. Jay was excited about getting info on the Storytelling Festival and you (Doc) were in Arizona dreaming of a cruise or two elsewhere!
Sometimes I wish I had a very detailed diary of my life, I am always wondering what I was doing "back then" and very rarely can I figure it out!

I find that having moved around a lot helps me remember more of my past, though not nearly as much as if I had kept a diary. Often on trips I do keep a journal about the trip, and sometimes other more general information slips in there as well. I've traveled to all 50 states, 5 continents (missing Australia and Antarctica, the latter of which I plan only a "sail by" not a set-foot-on-the-continent type visit), and maybe about 50 countries. I've lived in about 15 states and 5 countries. I do know the dates of living or visiting almost all those places, which ties it to my life as a diary might do.
If I read a book or see a TV/news story about a place I've been, that will prompt my own memories of that place. Most places have specific associated music so hearing that music (or sometimes seeing that movie) will bring back a bunch of memories. Down in the basement I have a bunch of file cabinets and drawers with who-knows-what in them, as well as a bunch of moving boxes. I will be sorting through all that stuff this year, before we move (or before we die if we don't move back east) - maybe I'll create a diary retroactively.
There are downsides to moving around all the time, but some benefits too. Though I have sometimes been envious of those who stay in one place for many years, I wouldn't trade my own life for someone else's.

Preserving this website's postings could be like a diary, at least for the past 16 - 17 years. You've posted mostly here in the Show thread DW, but in the rest of the place we cover a lot more stuff 7 days/week!
And for that matter, the old Chatterbox can be found via the Wayback Machine, though IIRC it was kind of bits & pieces.

I need to do cleaning out as well.. searching for the motivating factor.. always better when there is a deadline I find. Hope you have some breakthrough soon!

I often keep old calendars is they have nice photos, and there are lots of specific activities and appointments there. Also I've used DayTimers for 20 - 30 years and I have kept most of those too.
Well, have a good week DW, I'm off to the movies!
