More about this week’s featured guests Rhonda Vincent was barely five years old when she began performing with her family band, the Sally Mountain Show. She’s been in the spotlight ever since. A multiple Grammy winner and named Female Vocalist of the Year numerous times by the International Bluegrass Music Association, this ace mandolinist has dozens of albums to her credit, including her latest, Music Is What I See.
As a reviewer in Bluegrass Today magazine put it: “There are powerful people in every walk of life. Mike Compton is the General George Patton of the mandolin.” Joe Newberry is known for his powerful banjo work, in addition to being a prize-winning guitarist, fiddler, and singer. Together, these two effortlessly move from traditional songs to contemporary instrumentals, from classic “mother” ballads to original compositions.
The Nightingale Trio is Nila Bala, Rachel LaViola, and Sarah Larsson, who met as university students performing with the Yale Women’s Slavic Chorus. After finishing their degrees — in law, film, and anthropology — the three reunited to sing folk songs that have spanned centuries of Slavic culture, music rich in stunning dissonances, asymmetric rhythms, and intricate ornamentation.

I'll tune in while I multi-task. I note that Pat Donohue is not listed in the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band line-up so though I don't remember the date, I guess GK kicked him out before Jan 2014 (or he is removed from the show description). The APHC Baltics cruise was in summer 2014, and I thought I recalled him being on that cruise. Maybe he just had that day off.
It doesn't really matter any more.

Keeping my fingers crossed, doc. Next week is supposed the Florida Storytelling Festival. Just hoping it doesn't get cancelled.

I just took a few minutes out, as Amber and Nadia Facetimed me. It's Nadia's 4th birthday and she tested positive for Covid last week, but wasn't sick, looks the picture of health on Facetime - they are en route to IHOP for birthday dinner/breakfast, she's wearing her face mask as is required/appropriate.
But back in time for a nice Macedonian song by the trio.

Our Central Florida Dulcimer Festival was due in early February but it was cancelled. Azalea Storytelling in LaGrange, GA is supposed to be the usual first weekend in March, I'm holding out for that one as well. I put new tires on my truck just before Christmas; I'm ready to go!

Next weekend is also the Cowboy Poetry Gathering, virtual version for all the members of the Western Folklife Center, though there is also a small live gathering. I'm virtual this year, planning in-person next year. I'd be surprised if they cancel the Florida Storytelling this close, but not shocked. I thought the governor has pretty much declared "Full Steam Ahead."

I watched a program from the Portland, OR, Storytelling group, that was pretty cool. Better than in my office chair.

I'm fine watching on the laptop because Howard monopolizes the big TV where it might be worth showing online performances.
Don't you just connect the TV and the laptop (or desktop) with an HDMI cord?

Howard and I were just consulting about dinner. I am much more interested in cooking since we started the Butcher Box meats subscription because the meat (beef, chicken and pork) is so good it deserves much better home cooking. Howard has noticed that the dinner is much better when I cook it, so he is more willing to allow some creativity.
I am a competent cook, nothing special, but I can do more than spaghetti, tacos, hamburger or chicken with some purchased commercial sauce. Tonight it will be chicken piccata - while watching Dr. Zhivago on TCM, as I really like that film.

I guess I'll watch SanFran at Greenbay. It'll be the only game I've watched all year. And I might turn it off or switch, we'll see, depending on how it goes.

I bet Howard will watch that, I might, depending on if it is a good game. I liked Aaron Rogers when he guest-hosted on Jeopardy, but was not impressed when he lied to his team about his immunization status and his subsequent isolation when positive for Covid cost them a game.
I put Dr. Zhivago on Record because it starts soon and I'll need to make dinner. I can watch it later it appropriate.

So which Neil Diamond tune does she want at her funeral? Maybe Sweet Caroline?

I wasn't that late tuning in, as the sign out credits are here and time for me to start dinner.
Have a great week!
