Born in Athens, Georgia, Leo Kottke taught himself to play the guitar after learning theory and harmony from trombone lessons. In 1969, he released 6- and 12-String Guitar (Takoma Records; reissued on Rhino Records) and began touring extensively. Since then, Kottke’s fingerpicking style has become legendary and his compositions have become standards in their own right.

Excuse me, I had to jump up. My wife sounded like she was strangling or having a stroke. She said a lizard or something jumped on the back of her neck while she opened the refrigerator door. I shook her shirt out. I don't know if she pee'd or anything; she hasn't checked yet.

So, what are you and your wife doing about real estate, dw? Staying at her place, or yours, or moving to a new place? Practical issues keep raising their head.

A superlative mandolinist, fiddler, composer, arranger, Peter Ostroushko grew up listening to tunes played at family get-togethers northeast Minneapolis. He had a remarkable career, from his uncredited mandolin set on Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks” to his many recordings to his compositions that underscored Ken Burns films and Twin Cities Public Television’s “Minnesota: A History of the Land,” for which Peter won an Emmy.

So, what are you and your wife doing about real estate, dw? Staying at her place, or yours, or moving to a new place? Practical issues keep raising their head. We are making most of the home within her domicile, but for now mine is still holding accumulated stuff, serving as an extra fridge for leftovers.. etc. It will take time to sort out the stuff I no longer need, and eventually I want to replace the carpet with recycled wood plank flooring. By then my daughter may be back from South Korea, and I thought I might see if she wanted to try living on her own as an adult.. of course that depends on what she and her boyfriend might be thinking long term. For now he still has no job and is living with his parents in Seoul. sigh

Singer-songwriter-storyteller-author Ann Reed grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota, and as a kid taught herself to play guitar. Later, she started playing at coffeehouses and cafés in the Twin Cities area, and has since performed throughout the country, winning many local and national awards — not to mention, legions of fans — along the way.

Well, that's good; nothing has to happen right away. No pressure. So anything new for you and yours in 2022? No plans. I'm glad things are opening back up. Music and storytelling. Get back to the things I enjoy. But, of course, its a big world and a lot of folks at home and abroad might have different ideas. Are you faamiliar with the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale, south of The Villages? There are a couple of good concerts ccoming up' Suzy Boggus March 18th and Riders in the Sky the weekend after that.

Like so many things, there are always wonderful events happening... and it comes down to how much can you afford. My sweetie and I were in Jacksonville before Christmas for the Transiberian Orchestra show.. a crazy and wonderful combination of sound, light and special effects. I scored front row seats... which were great for experiencing the indoor snow and feeling the heat from the fire balls they used.. but it was a little TOO close to appreciate the light show.

Butch Thompson first became interested in jazz as a child in Marine-on-St. Croix, Minnesota, where he discovered the piano at age three. He joined the Hall Brothers New Orleans Jazz Band in 1962 and became one of the few non-Orleanians to guest occasionally at Preservation Hall.
