The evening starts off with a great song, "Stealin' from Chet", which pays tribute to a great country music star. I wonder who musicians will be stealing from in 20 more years?

I finished reading "The Lake Wobegon Virus". It was nice to see lots of the character development, some things seemed familiar, but there were new things and new characters as well. Not to give away any spoilers, but there seemed to have been a shift in the plot towards the end. Now I am diving into "That Time of Year".

I like that this rundown gives the dates of the original show for the edited clips, easy to go back and hear more of an artist or the show. I know some folks have been asking in social media about an index to all of the segments of the News from Lake Wobegon. I'd like a reference to all of the characters! LOL

I did indeed get my vaccine last Monday morning and my second one is scheduled for Jan 20 after work; I don't work the next day, and many have worse side effects after the second shot. Not a moment's hesitation though, as my risk is very high given my occupation, and I have numerous risk factors. I am relieved and my family is relieved.
Otherwise, no excitement. It seems weird to read of other people in other states going out to restaurants, parties, or even movies. We do not have indoor group gatherings here, almost everyone wears a mask and maintains social distance.
I have both of GK's new books, but I have read only the end of "That Time" and haven't started "The virus" yet.

I read many of GK's facebook updates from his New York apartment and sometimes I think he really wants to go back on the road, but other times he seems to be "old and tired" and just happy to enjoy being cared for by Jenny. I suppose one factor in making such decisions must be financial. I'm glad no adverse effects from your first shot... do you have a personal opinion on if it will become public knowledge when someone who was vaccinated gets the virus anyway?

I've heard Pat play "Stealing From Chet" a number of times. One of my guitar heroes is Tommy Emmanuel, and he is a CGP - "Certified Guitar Player," so certified by Chet Atkins.
Both Tommy and Pat each think the other player is terrific. I'd love to see them on stage together one day. Tommy was due to be at MerleFest this year and I hope he is in the rescheduled show this year. Pat has played MerleFest too, maybe someday they'll be on stage together some day.
I have optimistically bought tickets to see Brandi Carlile at The Gorge in August - Christmas present for my daughter. And I have the Turner Classic Movie cruise rescheduled in October. Here's hoping.

Already reported in at least two cases, but both developed the illness less than 14 days after the vaccine, so not really a vaccine failure. However, we do know from the FDA data that the vaccine is "only" 95% effective - it will not prevent every case, but 95% is incredibly effective, much more than was expected.
Usually if one does get the disease, the vaccine seems to allow a much milder case. That happened to me with the flu shot a few years ago,

Difficult to make a one person trip with so many rates quoted for "double"/.

Your idea of listing the episode for the artist is appealing - I think of that with Arlo Guthrie's tune in the middle of "Cowboys." I think that came from the Tanglewood show in, I think, 2017 - next to the last show GK did IIRC.

That is a real problem with cruises, as they are geared to double occupancy. There are a few ships that have designated "single" cabins at a lower rate, and on some lines, especially for total ship charter theme cruises, they will have a roommate finding service.
Otherwise the "singles supplement" is 100% - that is you pay the same rate as though two people were in the cabin, though you might save a little because you don't pay port fees and taxes for the "second person."
The APHC cruises had a 60% singles supplement, which meant I paid "only" 160% of the per person double occupancy rate. On several occasion, a friend later joined me for the cruise and "contributed" to the fare.

I thought it sounded like Arlo, but especially the content sounded familiar. He and GK did a skit that featured lines about "This land is my land."

DW, you might want to check out "Cruise Critic" if considering an Alaska cruise and do some research. There are several group travel companies that have reasonable singles rates and also potentially a roommate matching service. Road Scholar is one of them I think, I know I have some brochures around here somewhere. And when I went to Israel/Palestine with Sabeel it was inexpensive and they set up roommates. Sabeel is a group of mainstream Protestant churches that supports the rights of Palestinian Christians, so if that is not your political slant...
There may be a few more road bumps to negotiate but traveling solo is very rewarding - you meet more people because you are NOT stuck with a group or a partner, and you can do whatever you want on your own time schedule.

Arlo's home is/was near Tanglewood, so he's obviously done multiple Tanglewood shows with GK. Thinking about it, the one Jay and I attended also featured the DiGi's as well as Arlo.

He is the kind of reprehensible fellow who glad-hands the women and gooses all the men. We lived in New Orleans for three years and I now both Sulphur and Sugarcane. My mother used to say of the local politicians: "He's so crooked he screws his pants on." That is a common feature among LA politicians.

It can get really windy with our storms, and then even at the hospital the internet can go down briefly until the generator takes over. At home, no generator, oh well.
I thought I'd never heard of Neko Case until summer 2019 when she opened for Brandi Carlile and Emmy Lou Harris and she was great. Plus, O probably had heard her on PHC and forgot.

About you "flu" question - there has been almost no influenza this year. I suspect we may catch fewer mild cases because people avoid coming to the office unless necessary. But at the hospital, sick people are swabbed for both flu and Covid, becuase there is a specific treatment available for influenza, so if they have flu, we can treat it.
I suspect that this is a low-incidence year, as there are always bad years and easy years. But I also think that wearing masks and maintaining distance have lowered the incidence of a lot of colds and flu and stomach viruses. I haven't had any such ailments since early March, which is unusual for me. I have an immune deficiency so I usually will get some ailment several times a year.

The conspiracy theories abound online, and many think that Doctors and hospitals are coding things as Covid for the money... so many influenza cases are being missed. I'm frankly tired of many of my fellow Americans being so "anti-American" including all of those who are going to flaunt the Constitution next week and vote against the electoral college results. Our Country is broken in my opinion.

I don't do hospital billing so I don't know for sure, but I do think hospitals are paid more for Covid patients; it strikes me that the increment is modest compared to the hugely increased costs of Covid.
There is no doubt in my mind there is less influenza. As a physician, if my patient has that there can be benefit from treatment so I don't want to miss the diagnosis. Doctors will not be "paid more" for Covid patients, although the risk of deadly disease is higher, and I don't believe for a minute that there is a conspiracy among a million practitioners to underdiagnose a treatable illness in their patients.
We may be near broken, but we'll see on Jan 6th. I think the constitution will hold and the coup will fail. It's a political stunt done strictly for selfish perceived political gain - some believe that it's worth the coup attempt to keep the "Trump base." Shameful.
Well, have a good week, DW.
