Tonight we go all the way back to November 28, 1998 (I imagine that was a post Thanksgiving show). The show was rebroadcast on November 18, 2000. Not sure if they edited the run-down or not so we shall see!
Live from Town Hall in New York, New York, with jazz singer/pianist Diana Krall (with her Trio) and Russell Malone on guitar, violin player Andy Stein brings his 98-year-old father, Ernest Stein, to celebrate his birthday with a duet (Ernest plays the piano), and Vince Giordano.

GK says this is a post-Thanksgiving show, makes sense. Thanksgiving has to be the 4th Thursday in November so it has to be between November 22 - 28 AND a Thursday.

Doc I read this today and wondered if you had a medical reflection on the topic?
If you eat mostly fruits, vegetables, grains, carbs, and non-meat proteins, plus a moderate amount of seafood and dairy products, you’re following the so-called “Mediterranean diet” based on the food traditionally eaten by people in the Mediterranean region, and you have a reduced risk of heart disease. But there’s a major catch, according to a 2017 report on the ongoing “Moli-sani Study” published in the International Journal of Epidemiology: The health benefits were more often experienced by wealthy eaters, because high-quality food in the diet doesn’t come cheaply.

"The true meaning of Christmas" per Pat D.
Have you noticed that this year Thanksgiving seems to have vanished from the scene? Stores were filled with Halloween stuff, and the next day they were loading in Christmas stuff. I was searching for a different radio station driving home the other day, and one station is already "All Christmas All the Time." November 11!
BTW, the station COULD have made note of Veterans' Day.

I think the Mediterranean Diet includes a fair amount of "healthy fats," but otherwise that looks like an accurate description. Seafood and out-of-season fruits and vegetables can be expensive but beans have been a low-cost protein alternative for many years. However, food deserts (no good grocery stores available) in low-income urban areas are a big problem. Some areas have included farmers' markets products in their food stamp program, to the benefit of their populations' healthier eating.

My food delivery ministry to the homeless and needy has taken me into a few of the food deserts in Tallahassee but also to some of the alternative grocery stores. One thing that is really interesting is that grocery stores in certain parts of town have significantly stocked the shelves to cater to the shoppers of their immediate neighborhood. In some cases that means full sugar soft drinks, high calorie low nutrient snacks, lots of sweetened foods, low cost meats that are featured in ethnic recipes... and branding that reflects very much an appeal to the neighbors...

It used to be that small neighborhood grocery stores predominated, rather than the big chains. Then as the chains grew larger, IGA (Independent Grocery Association) sprung up as a cooperative effort so neighborhood stores could gain some pricing advantage as larger purchasers.
When we lived in New Orleans in the late 1960's my mother would wear a dress, a hat, and gloves when she went to the neighborhood grocery store. We lived Uptown and the store was Langenstein's, which is - amazingly - STILL a neighborhood grocery store. NOLA remains a unique city with its unique charms.

BTW DW, I have switched to a new locums assignment though still on Whidbey Island. I work Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday which I rather like.
This office is much different than the last place, but I am getting used to it. This contract is for three months

In the late 60's, ladies still got dressed up when they went out in public.
Lots of old but familiar names and skits in these old shows...

Wonder what or whom has captured our Jay this evening? I haven't heard much from Jay lately, dunno where he's at. Hey, folks! Sorry, I got sidetracked, trying to catch up on some other stuff. And I'll just be a few minutes. This is the weekend for my favorite dulcimer festival, up at Stephen Foster Park in White Springs. Of course it's virtual this year. And I didn't sign up for any workshops, but I did get tickets for the concerts and to sit in on the jams. So there's a concert at 7. Tomorrow morning we would normally be in the gazebo down by the Suwannee River about 8 o'clock, having a little jam so I'll be there for that! Ho are you doing?

A virtual dulcimer festival for sure would be much different... depending on your computer speed and internet connection, playing a jam would be a cacophony of sound I bet. Who are the headliners for the concerts?

No, we don't try to play together for the jams. there's one person playing and you can play along as you wish at home. Improvise, whatever, no one to hear! At least we can do that much with each other. The concerts are put on the end of each evening by the instructors.
And it looks like I better go get Zoomed in! Have a good evening!

Life sure does make some interesting couples/ They really do seem like and odd combination, but who knows? Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are engaged now. Bill Maher commented that they MUST stay together and make it work as an inspiration to all the rest of us who remain separated along Trump vs Not-Trump lines.

I was not familiar with the political leanings of those two. Can't imagine either of them being for Trump though. I wasn't either, but Bill seemed to think they are polar opposites, one a Trump enthusiast and one a Biden enthusiast. I don't think recording artists and movie stars have any special knack for selecting the best politicians, so I don't see why their preferences deserve special attention, but what do I know? The wealthy ones can make bigger donations to one's campaign of course. Or at least to your PAC, as federal law limits an individual's contribution to $2,800.

Did you ever watch the Mitch Miller TV show DW?
Those are the same old songs my grandmother would play for our family singalongs, and the same as these Diana Krall songs. Also the same as the Jonesborough Novelty Band plays every year at Storytelling.

GK enjoyed singing duets so much. That was an enjoyable part of hearing him live in concert! Did he do duets on cruises?
