Bonnie Riatt next week is pretty exciting. Despite my residual anger, I was lucky to be able to drive over to Flint last night to see Garrison's one-man show. It's kind of like having an opportunity to see Charles Dickens in your lifetime. I find that if you do a little digging for the information, some of the acts or guests travel to venues within driving distance. Having had two boys in travel hockey, one who had games as far away as St. Louis, MO, driving distance takes on a new meaning. The acts are fun to listen to and even more fun to see live. Last night was an impulse, last minute thing, so darn, my ticket didn't get me close enough for GK to see my new shoes, ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) , but it was a pretty good show. There were some good baseball jokes and that old dog Bruno with the fish story, you know, the one with the Lutheran pastors on the pontoon and grandma in the bowling ball gets a little better each time he tells it.

What a great impulse, J*, and new shoes on top of it! Your argument for Marie Antoinette is the most convincing I've come across, though many critics are pretty positive.
I guess forgoing a chance at GK live is kind of cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'd have gone, too, but the drive from MN would have been about as bad as carting your son to hockey in MO.
I didn't know he did one-man shows. No one to take the part of Bruno and no Pat or Shoes? It's hard for me to imagine a show without all the superlative talent that surrounds him.

Well....
Believe it or not, not only do we have Bonnie Raitt and her band, plus the Wailin Jennys, but GK has hired - get this - a mime to come out at various points in the show and "undulate". You all will have to tell me how that looks on radio...
;-)

LOL. Not quite sure how this is going to work... The plan is for her (the mime) to come out at three points - during the warm up, during Powdermilk, and during greetings - this to include some costume changes as well... She's going to "slither" up from under the stage and eventually work her way to GK. During greetings, she's supposed to climb him and find something in his jacket pocket, then slip away. She has a stretchy black (what I would call a) cat suit reminiscent of Momenchance, and this bright orange dress-like thing straight out of Wonderland.
We're also going to have a skeleton drop down at some point and hand Garrison a piece of paper...
So, if you all hear the crowd react to something odd, or nothing in particular, there's your clue.
Talk to you later.
P.S. Bonnie Raitt is SO excited to be here - she's listened to the show forever and will even show up in Guy Noir. A very nice lady...

I'm glad the fundraising is over. Looking forward to Bonnie Raitt and hearing the reactions to the mime. This may well be a first. Someone should check Guinness (the Book of Records, not the brewery) (not that I'd object to anyone's checking the brewery or sampling its product). Imagine: the first time Bonnie Raitt and a mime appeared on the same radio show!

To paraphrase Garrison, from the movie: "A mime (silence) on the radio - I don't know how that works"...

I'm glad he decided to go for it, even though I doubt it will become a staple of radio programming generally.
You could say I have a "wait and see" attitude.

Not exactly the same thing, but Charlie McCarthy was very popular on radio for something like 20 years.

I finally got The movie - - tried to watch it, but was interrupted too many times by a realtor. Long story....good ending... anyway, what I did see seemed fun, but a bit like a dream? Not like the real show, but more like a dream GK was having with Noir narrating.... like I said, I have to watch it again. That's the beauty of ownership. Am looking forward to tonight's show, but Thomas, when you mentioned Mime, you conjured up that old cliche - "Where are the Webcams when you need them? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) " I will have my TV on tonight during airtime....we are being hit with that bad storm - rain and 70 mph wind gusts - my son is producing a special on the local channel tonight and I promised him I would watch. He should treat me to dinner with all that overtime pay ~ right?

We turn our clocks back one hour tonight, so I am pretending this is just after 10pm instead of the usual 11pm!
But thanks for asking!

Hi, folks, I'm not going to participate much. Huddled under an afghan, communing with my virus. Just wanted to tell you that the "God told me to run for Congress" referred to a local candidate who regularly blasphemes. A Virago for God. that's why the audience roared.
Lovely Jennys!
