Thought some of you might be interested in something I posted on my exoteric blog about my Twitter sparring match with libertarians who imagine that people in California, Texas, and Michigan were defying tyranny over the weekend. But if you think gathering on beaches or invading Statehouses is the way to defend our liberrty, you won't like it. whipplesexotericblog.wordpress.com/2020/05/05/looking-at-libertarians-on-twitter/

After the hideous protests at the Capital in Lansing and at the governor's house (!), the legislature is considering barring guns and confederate flags. The legislators had to wear bullet proof vests while the protest was going on, so now they are not quite so sure that the Second Amendment is sacred.

"Banning" guns and confederate flags may run into barriers with the 1st and 2nd amendments Joe has eloquently discussed. There is still some room for controlling where guns may be carried, display of Start & Bars on public property, etc. Disclosure - the Stars & Bars are on the tombstones of some of my ancestors, and those cemeteries are private property. Coursera has a new free course on Law and Covid-19 www.coursera.org/learn/law-in-the-time-of-covid-19/home/welcomeThe Great Courses also has some good courses on law, civics, and a variety of other related topics. Some of us need to refresh our memories from high school Civics class, though the ones who need it most are likely least prone to re-read the Constitution.

Today I read that Demetriou's Jazz Alley, a Seattle music venue, may re-open with live music soon. Seattle is not open yet for concerts but Jazz Alley is primarily a dinner-and-a-show/concert kind of place so they may slip in under the "restaurant" re-opening provisions. I think it is along the lines of 25% or maybe 50% capacity and maintenance of physical distancing.
BoatBabe, there may be hope for Corb Lund's concert at the Tractor Tavern in September. It's not really a diner-and-a-concert kind of place (I have heard rumors of bar fights, which doesn't really fit with the dinner-show model), but maybe they could pretend enough to slide by. That is still 3 months away. Oh - there is also the little issue of opening the border, but a good argument may be made that that exchange of music and arts is "essential travel" don't you think?
For those who missed the posted discussion somewhere else, Corb Lund is a cowboy poet/musician who lives in Alberta, Canada just across the border from Montana, and not too far from Ian Tyson. Jay and I saw him several times at Elko, and BoatBabe saw him doing Ian Tyson tune cover on YouTube. His new album Agricultural Tragic will be out very soon; I have pre-ordered it and I am waiting patiently...
[That is not exactly true, as I am not all that patient}

Oh! MY! GOD!! (And yes, she loves me and you, but she does not put up with continual Bull$h*t) What the hell is wrong with these people?!? VP Pence stands up there having worn NO MASK and no physical distancing at a televised press conference and justifies Agent Orange's no mask/no physical distancing campaign rallies in spiking Covid-19 states by saying the Freedom of Speech and the Right to Congregate are "enshrined" in the U.S. Constitution, even during a pandemic. "We don't lose our rights just because of a pandemic." The doctors stand well behind and away from Pence at the press conference, wearing face masks, shrinking, arms crossed, and looking at the floor.
Once again, yesterday (Friday, June 26th, 2020) the United States of America broke a new record (like every other day this past week) for new positive cases, 55 thousand. Yesterday only. Granted, if we slowed down testing, like tRump requested, we wouldn't have so many positive results. It looks bad for him. Everything is about him.
Texas and Florida have gone backwards in re-opening phases, closing bars again (What an intelligent thought!) however, most states have not mandated masks in public. Washington State has. Arizona's ICU beds are at 100% capacity.
The majority of new Covid-19 cases are among the 18-35 age group. They may not die, but they will kill their parents and grandparents.
Since when did The Constitution over-ride common sense, well-known medical practices, and science?

I did tell our eldest son, who is demanding his constitution rights:
"Okay, So if you are really buying into this "demanding I wear a mask is an affront to my civil liberties" argument, then the next time you break your knee, or need surgery for any other reason, then you must DEMAND that the doctor and all other workers in the surgical suite do NOT wash their hands, do not wear surgical gowns, do not wear gloves, and do not wear masks. They aren't protecting themselves, they are protecting you. That is the science of cross contamination, and clearly you don't believe in it. Go for it!"
The unleashing of vitriol in 2016 has had many consequences. The politicizing of medical practices during a pandemic is only one of them.

Now we are going backwards in re-opening, with 55,000 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday alone. Think that is going to help the economy?
If we didn't test, we wouldn't have any new cases. Hospitals would still be over-flowing, but at least we wouldn't have to listen to those numbers, until we get to the deaths. Deaths are pretty undeniable, yet under-reported as well. Three thousand deaths in Washington State are not reported because the souls died in nursing homes before being tested. Just round them up and move them to the cemeteries.
If we stopped checking people's immigration status, we would see a lot less undocumented immigrants as well.
*Rock On*

The hospital admissions are also getting undeniable, as most are now testing everyone for Covid at the time of admission, even if they are not sick, just there for, say, elective gall bladder surgery. They do NOT want anybody with asymptomatic Covid-19 coming in and then infecting the staff and the other patients. The epidemiologists are noting "excess deaths" which ultimately identify the numbers who likely died of Covid-19 and its complications, not just "pneumonia' with multi-system organ failure. Eventually even those people who love Trump might get offended when their friends and family members are infected with Covid, and even die from it. As the numbers get higher, it gets harder to hide the truth. Here's a hint. The children's hospital in Houston is admitting adult patients because there are not enough beds in the adult hospitals to hold all the sick people! The specialty of pediatrics exists because "children are not small adults" so they need different treatments. But "Adults are not just large children" either. I wonder how they are caring for those adults in a pediatric hospital? Perhaps allowing internists to have have temporary privileges there? What about the nursing staff, the respiratory therapists who manage the ventilators, and all the others who usually care for babies and children? Maybe even they have family doctors who can take care of both adults and children on staff. But intensive care for adults is MUCH different than for children, and most family doctors are not doing intensive care of really sick people on ventilators, pediatric or adult.
This is a huge mess, and much of it could have been avoided with good leadership and proper management with common sense public health principles.

At this point, we are a third world country. I don't blame the European Union for telling us we are not allowed to enter their countries.

I'm afraid it's almost impossible to convince members of a cult that they have fallen for a charlatan. In most cases, unfortunately, it takes a personal experience which clearly and undeniably contradicts what the cult leader has been telling them. Maybe personal experience of Covid-19 will be the wake up call for some.

I just read that the leader of the anti-lockdown, don't-wear-a-mask movement in Maryland has tested positive. He is refusing to give names to the health department so that those with whom he has been in contact can be notified. He explains that he didn't get the virus at any of his rallies. He got the virus because Satan heard he planned to start a church and gave him the coronavirus. You can't make this stuff up.

Unfortunately, it will effect all of us. What a pitiful waste.

Can't we just put all of these idiots on an island somewhere and let them all infect one another until they are dead? I'm sorry. I know that is not a very Christianlike thought on my part, but I am beyond angry with all of these people.

I know that is not a very Christianlike thought on my part, but I am beyond angry with all of these people. HaHaHa! Please don't apologize, Lirio. I said it before, but my husband's quote actually is, "There's no fixing stupid." It's a cross we all bear, and Thank You, Jesus (or whomever you wish to thank!) We all have each other to lean on, even during Idiot Season. Seriously, some days I am so angry that I can't get past my own panic attacks, so now I must quit doing that. We will help, support, protect, and save each other. The idiots won't. That's their cross to bear.

Darwin will fix Stupid. Eventually.
Even though I am a Christian and a physician dedicating to treating the sick when possible, comforting always - well, I still agree with Darwin and lirio. I can't treat, comfort or fix Stupid.
