Hey, I didn't SCROLL DOWN far enough to see these before Christmas. They are still great, even a few days late.
What a great Santa!!

My feelings exactly! If i'd remember that "members only" doesn't show up on the NEW list, I wouldn't miss so much! Great Santa, even though he sits on naughty kids.

I was tempted this morning to get out my Christmas dishes. But I said, no, nope, gotta wait until after Thanksgiving. But seeing this thread I'm re-thinking....why not enjoy them another full week this year? There is a little story behind my Christmas dishes. Back when I had a family at home, I used to always pine for the lovely Christmas china I saw in department stores but could never afford to buy. One year, after Christmas, I saw that sets of el-cheapo dishes were on sale at CVS for $5 each. Sets of four plates, four bowls, four bread-and-butter plates, and four mugs. So I bought them. Not Lenox, by any means, but Christmas dishes, and service for eight for only $10. How could I go wrong? Those dishes have survived years with teenagers. trips via moving van to and from Mississippi, and several years of Grannyhood. I can only hope they are not full of toxins and poisons, because I do love feeling blessed by $10 well spent.

Great story, Booky!
This year, right after Halloween, I took down our Halloween lights and Vlad Dracul's headstone, and got out the Christmas lights. My Dahhlink REFUSED to let me put them up Sooooooooooooo early. Apparently, that would have been blasphemous before Thanksgiving. Who knew?!? No one in our family has ever tried to do that before.
I guess ya really do learn something new every day.

I am bringing things up from the basement a little at a time. We never have a tree (cats and laziness). We all (except for Baby Sam) have intricately knited Christmas stockings made by my talented mother. My mother was past it by the time Sammy came along. My sister and her husband lived together for years before they got married, but my mother wouldn't knit Jeremy a stocking until the wedding! Now they are living apart, so if my mother were around, she would probably take back the stocking.

Pssst, BoatBabe, here is a secret. I have heard of people who just leave their lights up all year but turn them on and light them up only When Seasonally Appropriate! I was just noticing that now that Christmas wreath that has hung on the door since last year is now Seasonally Appropriate.
I have some Christmas dishes too, not expensive ones but I really like them. I need to go down in the basement and bring them up along with all the other supplies, like the Ever Efficient Jane is doing.

My shopping is done and mostly wrapped, but I work at it all year. I just have stocking gifts to wrap and some big blankets (every time a grandkid comes over, they wrap up in the soft blanket that is on my couch, so I got them each one). Instead of Christmas Eve dinner, we are having a brunch this year because Scott has to go to work at 3. He had to work Thanksgiving too! ERs never close.
Teens are not easy to buy for, but I think I did pretty well this year. I just bought Henry a baja jacket (the kids call it a "drug rug"). He bought one when we were in Haight Asbury, but his friend was wearing it and fell in the Grand River, and it just didn't survive. But now aren't I cool that I know it is called a drug rug? I bought it at a hippie store which also sold all sorts of smoking gear. I'm sure the clerk (who looked about eight) wondered where I had wandered in from.

A few from this year, which is unbelievably busy. Last year we had 17 performances of ELF for Santa to do, plus all the other usual appearances and responsibilities. This year, no show, but lots to do nonetheless, and my journalism assignments have tripled. And then there's family--a lot of really tough times--but we are determined to find and to create every bit of joy possible, in every way, for everyone. Love you all.
