I found a listserv that hast only good news, called appropriately "The Daily Good." There's a nice quote there today from Mitch Albom (author of "Tuesdays With Morrie"): Behind all your stories is always your mother's story. Because hers is where yours begin. Mitch AlbomAnd today's daily good features a story by Fritjof Capra about eco-sustainability in communities. Here's the website where you can sign up for a daily shot of good news in your inbox: www.dailygood.org/I was lucky enough to spend time with both Mr. Capra and Mr. Albom in my various times at Esalen Institute. It occurs to me that I should go back there, it's been a while.

Novel isn't it? Good news in your inbox. Most of my email is either professional stuff of bad news, so I am enjoying the Daily Good.
Today it says "What do you have in abundance? Why not share with someone else who needs it more?"
Sometimes I have something that is enough, not abundance, but still give it to someone who needs it more. Prompts me to think "How much do I really need?"

Doc, I am reading a REALLY great book called '7' right now, about a woman who decided to pare down things in her life to just 7 of each, for one month at a time. Like eating only 7 foods. And having only 7 pieces of clothing to wear. And so on.
It's so good that I was continually reading bits of it aloud to my husband and daughter on our road trip over the weekend.
What has stayed with me most? She speaks of whenever she is saying "I WANT!" that she needs to be listening for the much quieter "we need."
I want/we need. Truly words to live by.

The older you get, the truer that is. I've moaned before about my ongoing failure to pare down. But one thing I've found that helps is if I need perking up with something new, I have to buy at least one thing for one of our free stores. This past wk-nd, during a great sale, I made a killing on men's jackets - 4 for $60, Chaps, lined and waterproof. Not warm enough for sub-zero but big enough for layering. (I also bought a new soap dish and unbreakable glass for our bathroom. No, we didn't need them, but I'm fighting the midwinter blues and wanted a little change.) I'd already found some inexcusably great bargains the week before and been unable to drop them off because they are closed the week of Ash Wednesday. So this morning we dropped everything off and I felt justified in stopping at the bakery. If Gracie were here to cook for me, I'd be cheerful all the time. .

Now that is some verbiage from the past. Are you going Hebrew on us.
