Have you seen the news coverage?
It looks like they are all having a lot of fun, flotillas on the Thames, concerts with Elton John and Paul McCartney, all the rest. This royalty concept is a bit weird to us in the US, but the Brits love it, so forge on.
And the Olympics are coming!

It seems like a lot of money to spend for a country that is in dire straits. But that could be said of the entire concept of monarchy, I suppose, and, as you say, Brits eat it up with a spoon (at least some of them do).

I know she is a monarch, not a politician, but think of it. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a political leader that everybody loves?
Instead we have these "two sides" that hate each other and have not one good word to say about each other.

When you spend a lot of money, you give that money to people who are working. Did you see the report about The Royal Needleworkers, who make that stuff? They are lace, tat and embroidery workers who make everything from the uniforms for Her Royal Guardsmen surrounding Her carriages to the lace sewn on Kate's wedding dress. That money The Royals are spending is supporting their own economy. It's not like that money just disappears. It is changing hands, and somebody else who works for a living gets to feed their families tonight.
