However many you earned, have you kept them? I came across my h.s. diploma while trying to clean some stuff out, and I can't decide if it's time to toss it. (Why wasn't it time 40 years ago?!!) and as for college, will I need to prove I graduated in order to get a job? not likely

I got some sort of certificate at graduation from the 8th grade of parochial school. I'm not sure if I still have it, but I probably do. I'm sure I still have my high school, college, and grad school diplomas, and I think I know where they are.

I am routinely asked for notarized copies of my degrees, diplomas, and certificates, even though they can be verified by various other means.
When I applied for my WV license, notarized copies + verification by my schools was not enough either. No I had to attend an in-person interview with a board member and show him my original diplomas and certificates - frames and all! If I hadn't had them framed, I am sure it would have been much easier, but as it was, I carried them onto the airplane with me and flew all the way across the country with them.
Most states and graduate schools do not seem to care about high school, although one medical school to which I applied (that was Harvard) wanted my high school diploma and transcript; I do not have a high school diploma, as I dropped out half-way through my senior year. My guidance counselor sent them a letter saying that I was an excellent student and would have graduated, had it not been for lacking the last half-semester of gym. She tactfully omitted the fact that I was ranked 91st in a class of 101. Then she sent me a note wishing me good luck in my medical career. Above and beyond - she why I am so proud of my high school?
