I've had a couple of of requests for the steps involved in putting a photo in your profile. I'm going to try to post the steps here.
First of all, you have to choose a picture that is already on the web. I don't have a digital camera or use any of the sites where you can post your own pictures, but I think Trusty, Thomas, and someone else -- dwarnold? -- can do this, so if you need that info, maybe one of them will add it to this thread.
Please forgive my lingo (or lack of). I'm self taught, so I just figured this stuff out without knowing exactly what it's all called.
What I do is open two browsers. On one I open my prairieCHATTER profile page, and click on "modify profile."
On the other, I google images of whatever I'm looking for, like Dylan or Big Papi or, like last night for PJ, John Denver. So a bunch of photos come up and if you click on the one you like, you'll get a page with a smaller image of that specific one, along with a link to "see full-size image." Click on that link.
Let's say, since he's playing right now, I want to find a picture of Tom Brady. (I have to be careful, since I don't want to jinx him.)
Once I've picked out the one I like, and get the full-size image on my monitor, I copy the web address.
Now, switch back to the browser with your "modify profile" screen on it. Go to the little box marked "Avatar URL" and paste the web address for your photo in that box. You can add appropriate "personal text" which will appear under the picture. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "modify profile," and voila!
Well, we hope, "voila," because most of the time the photograph will be imported, but sometimes it won't. And I don't know why it won't, I only know you have to choose a different photo and try again.
You can follow a similar procedure for placing a photo in one of your posts. Just copy the URL and then, in your writing your post message area, click on the little framed picture icon and paste the web address in between the brackets. Again, most of the time the photo will appear in your post, but not always.
I'm not going to remove Bob, but let's see if I can get Tom here:
And while I import his photo..........
TOUCHDOWN PATS!!!!
