I'm so techically challenged that I haven't managed to get any of the streams to play on my computer. There are several that I know about and would like to be able to hear.
There is our local PBS station, WGBH, which now has a "High Definition" second channel on its radio frequency, They use the HD channel 2 to play all classical, including rebroadcasts of their own regular classical programs, and programming from other sources to fill the remaining hours of the day. They stream the all-classical HD channel 2.
Then there is KCME in Colorado Springs, which I discovered last May when I was in the greater Pueblo area for my cousin's Confirmation. They are a completely independent, listener-funded, stand-alone station (nothing from PBS, CPB, or the like for funding). They are mostly classical, with a few hours of jazz. A lot of their programming is local, with a few purchases of things like Karl Haas, and some orchestral concert series. And they do it all with two fund-raiser periods per year, with a goal of $200,000 each time. That's right, folks: they do their own thing, and they can do it on $400,000 per year!
I'll get you the URL's later. I've got to go do some errands now.

And my favorite: www.KFAI.org and Independent Public Radio station (IPR) as opposed to MPR and the like that are under the thumb of sponsoring corporations.

Took me a while to get back, but here it is. KCME in Colorado has its website at www.kcme.org where they stream their braodcasts. The Boston PBS station, WGBH, which carries APHC, uses its website, wgbh.org, to stream its HD channel 2 of all classical programming. WHRB, classical, jazz, and rock, as well as Harvard sports and a Saturday morning country music show, streams over www.whrb.org — usually the broadcast, but sometimes they will broadcast one thing and stream another, such as when there is a hockey game at the same time as a Metropolitan Opera broadcast. The commercial classical station, WCRB, streams its broadcasts over www.wcrb.com.

Wow! It recognized the url's even though I couldnt highlight them.
A word about high-definition radio. Apparently it involves digitizing the signal and transmitting it over the same frequency band the station uses for its regular broadcasts. This enables them to transmit two programs at once, and the HD is supposed to be even clearer than normal FM. The problem is that you need a special HD radio to "decode" the broadcast signal, and they cost aboout $300. (Price may come down in a while.) I got one of the HD radios, and unfortunately it can't quite pull in the WGBH all-classical channel, which is what I wanted to be able to hear. It seems that either the signal isn't quite as strong as the rgular broadcast, or the radio's reception is weaker than the "normal" FM radios I have. But I gather that you don't need a HD computer to get the stream.
So if you're not far from the transmitter, an HD radio might be worthwhile. Otherwise, you may want to wait until the technology gets a little better.

Here's something that you might want to act on. www.savenetradio.orgThe future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling by the Copyright Royalty Board and are due to go into effect on May 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006). That is why Highlander Radio has joined the Save Net Radio Coalition. If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date including Highlander Radio. The RIAA has managed to have the U.S. Government's Copyright arm rubber stamp their own agenda which is an assault on all American people by our own legal system. Thousands of independent stations like Celtic Radio will be wiped off the scene and a new age of Corporate only radio sites will replace the community and creativeness that you have all come to know and love. H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act was introduced by Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Donald Manzullo (R-IL ) to save the Internet Radio Industry. Find out more about how you can help Save Net Radio and Highlander Radio by contacting your congressperson and asking them to co-sponsor H.R. 2060

(Here comes Trusty's quest for the electric eclectic again.) Ever heard a Canadian radio stream? Ever heard a French Canadian radio stream? Ever heard a Jewish French Canadian radio stream? Ever heard a Punk Rock Jewish French Canadian radio stream? Now you can - if you dare. Check out the Rocking Rabbi HERE! One of the lines was something like, "This Rocker (Bon Jovi?) said & did what he wanted, and he was dirty, but he kept the Sabbath, and that's Kosher." ;D ;D

Proposed legislation designed to save Internet radio webcasting has been introduced in Congress. Reps. Jay Inslee, D-WA, and Don Manzullo, R-IL, recently introduced the legislation in the House. Called the Internet Radio Equality Act, it seeks to reverse a March 2 decision of the federal Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) to nearly triple the amount of royalties Internet webcasters pay to copyright holders for playing a song. Rep. Manzullo noted that if the bill passed it would overturn the huge rate increases that Internet broadcasters say will shut them down, and set up a system that is fair both to webcasters and the artists who record the music.

Jimminey, Trusty. I went to listen in on this station, but had to quit after six minutes. Sorry. It's much too pop/sap for me. I'm recording all my radio listening this week for Arbitron and now I'll have to include jillfm. So, I guess regardless of my opinion , the station will get a lick from me. I listen almost exclusively to pandora.com or KFAI or MPR/NPR when I listen to APHC. Well, actually, I listen to my CDs most of the time. I still thank jane for opening my ears to Los Lonely Boys. I love their latest CD. Almost every song makes me think about one thing.....

And I think pandora.com is trying to see how long I'll hold out before clicking, "I'm sick of this song, don't play it again for a month." They play BeauSoleil's L'Ouragon every time I open up their website.
It's the ONLY BeauSoleil song they HAVE, if you can believe it!!! You can be certain I'm not going to say I'm sick of it, even though I am, just a teeny tiny bit. (And not a word to Michael!)
