A lot of forums require guests to login or register before they can enter the forum. Some let guests enter and read, but require registration before posting. Very few let guests post without registration.
We have tried the "experiment" of letting guests enter and post to attract new members and give us the chance to welcome them as long as the privilege was not abused. This has had more negative effects than positive for both members, guests and "another" guests.
This forum allows the free exchange of ideas and experiences, but we need to know with whom we are corresponding. Effective immediately, the "experiment" has run its course and all guests are required to login or register before posting. If you are a guest, we gladly welcome you to this forum, but if you want to participate, you must register and login for your post to be valid.
Welcome to prairieCHATTER! Become part of the community. We want your stay with us to be productive, informative and fun!

Good idea, Trusty.
And please let's stop accusing people of posting under more than one identity. That friction has been going on since the first "Aha" thread and caused at least one group to splinter off. And for the record...
[glow=red,2,300][/glow]I am the Invisible User[glow=red,2,300][/glow] I confessed to that some time ago, but apparently people forgot. I didn't know I'd be listed that way when I opted out of indicating on-or-off-line status. (You can do that in your profile preferences.) I just wanted to post without being drawn into exchanges too much like IMing, something I don't enjoy. Invisible User doesn't mean secret spy. All my posts are identified.

Another "for the record".......
I was the "guest" who posted the Dylan song, "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)."
The reason for my posting it anonymously has passed.

I suppose it really doesn't matter, but I thought brit liked to wear the mantle of invisibility too. Which would mean that you were an invisible user, rather than the invisible user.

Well, darn, Joe, that's a letdown. I was thinking of it along the lines of The SHADOW or even THE SAINT.

Don't feel bad. There's enough crimefighting work in this world for both you and The SHADOW.

One more for the record...
I confess, I am the other man! I'm the reason that your wife has started wearing perfume again, why she visited the beauty shop and has a new hair style, the reason she's walking around with a little smile on her face. Yes, it's me.
OK, that's a lie. I just wanted to get in on the confession thing, it looked like so much fun.
But, a word of warning to any guy out there that is neglecting his wife... don't do it. You better, love her, cherish her, respect her and make sure she knows how much you appreciate her; because there's always a guy like me around.
Guy's, it's time to turn off the football game, put on some music and dance with that beautiful woman (yes, your wife) that's been picking up after your dumb ass for all these years. Because if you don't, I will.
Regards, The other man

That's amazing!
My hunch is that Trusty followed through on his idea that guests should be able to look but not post. It's been a while since any guest has posted.
I hope at least a couple of guests liked what they saw and will be back later and eventually join up.

I asked ProBoards about it. Here's their answer:
--------------- \Re: Many Guests at Once « Reply #1 on Today at 12:29pm » Sometimes, someone can come online, and their IP changes with every page view. That could be why, or it could simply be a search bot was crawling your site at the time. ------------------
Now, if someone would like to interpret the answer, please do. Otherwise, I'll just let ignorance be bliss.

I woke up in the middle of the night recently and found I had search bots crawling all over me. Yuch.
I think the cats brought them in from outside.

It's simpler than that.
There are many interested parties who would enjoy bantering or discussing and even debating some things, that we can't be bothered with the numerous inane comments posted by a very few that detract from the main object of this site.
It happened before on the PHC. Anyone listening?

This particular thread is fairly innocuous, and digressions seem to be fine. If there are posts, though, one doesn't like, ignore them and go on. Make reply posts where you have some interest in the discussion. If you are uninterested, don't reply. Nay, don't bother reading them. There is no test at the end of the quarter where you will be required to answer questions about other people's ideas. I promise you that.

Here's the real answer: we are now in the company of someone with multiple personalities disorder. Hence, all those guests. Poor lass or laddie, maybe both!
As to Brit's comment, I sooooo relish being as inane here as I wanna be. Mikey, I know you're nearby, so let's sing this in two-part harmony:
If I could be anything I wanna be, Anything under the su-u-u-n, I think I'd be an inane poster-woster on the old chatterbox site, No. 1, No. 1 The old chatterbox site No. 1
And I'd go: toot-toot, up the river I'd go: toot-toot, mark 'em down toot-toot up the river and I'd seranade the boys back in town, back in town I'd seranade the boys back in town.
