There's a button up top named "Calendar". Click on it and you will see a schedule of the Saturday APHC programs that I blatantly and unabashedly copied from the APHC website. (HOWEVER, I didn't copy the ticket information, nor all the performances - just the broadcasts, so you'll have to go there for that information, and if they notice the increased traffic and ask you why you are there, just tell them that this board sent you!) prairiehome.publicradio.org/programs/schedule/Also, this Calendar has birthdays!! Yes, when you registered, and had to give your birthday, the "system" processed that information like a meat grinder and spit it out on the Calendar - whether you wanted it to or not - and the administrator (that's me) can't do anything about it. So, check the Calendar often, and if you wake up on your birthday with a new car in your driveway or Tahiti tickets in your mailbox, remember the Calendar! The gift just might have been from a long lost admirer of your posts on this Board! Yeah, I know. You'd rather have Gather points, right? ;D ;D

Trusty, you have such a gift for organization, I'm astounded. The discussions and threads are brilliant.
I also see that hitting reply at the top gets you to this cornucopia of colors, emoticons and [glow=red,2,300][/glow]effects[glow=red,2,300][/glow].
And there's spell check at the bottom! Wow!

Well, pooh. Apparently I don't know how to use the colors and effects. But it's all still lovely. Thank you.

Gather points? We'd rather have Green Stamps. (Thank you, gailkate, for pointing out the color! All I did was highlight what I wanted to be in color and then selected one from the list. This is going to be FUN!) ;D One thing, Trusty, regarding the birthdays. I selected the option not to display my age, so my birthday isn't displayed on the calendar. Still, that needent keep all of you from showering me with gifts. I do celebrate Christmas. ;D

Still, that needn't keep all of you from showering me with gifts. I do celebrate Christmas. ;D I don't mind everyone knowing I am 43 going on 64, but I do not like the date being mentioned for the simple fact that I hate to be reminded of it. I am on an e-mail based site (all ex-cult members) and when someone's birthday comes up, the bright spark in New Zealand (who keeps a record of birth dates) mentions it and then you are inundated all day with "Happy Birthday" from Australia, UK, then the eastern seaboard of the North American Continent until the end of the day in Seattle and Vancouver. None of them are for me so I consider it a waste of space and time. As there about 200 people connected to the e-mail site, that's most of the bloody year!!! Thank goodness many are on the same day! Unfortunately, the e-mail based system only allows one to choose either the messages as they are posted, or a daily digest, but it comes to the same thing. I still see all the messages. On this site, it would also appear when using the "quote" facility, one has to take the whole posting. I was hoping to delete everything from lirio's posting except for the last paragraph, which is the only part I wanted to address. The darned Spell Check wants to change my colour into your color and my programme into your program. (Ive been playing around and previewing you see!) How can it identify the difference between discreet and discrete? That's quite impressive. Ain't this fun learning? It's like being back in school. Well - sort of. Now, where's the punctuation button? ;D

Brit, if you don't want to use all the quote, just delete the part you don't want after you take the quote over to your reply. (Be sure and leave the "quote" and "/quote" in brackets.) (See above.) Also, I don't think I can hide your birthday. I would have to hide the whole calendar. Also, I like using English words, too, but I guess I would have to stop using the spell-check if I didn't want it to "correct" it. Also, Lirio, I see your birthday on the calendar (You have to click on it to get the info.), and I thought I was getting in the way of MLK!

Brit, just edit out the portions of the post you are quoting before you hit "post reply." Be careful to leave the original quote/unquote instructions in brackets on either side of the material you are quoting.

HOW TO HIDE YOUR BIRTHDAY:
Go to your profile and click "modify." Where it says "AGE," chose to hide it. Save modifications. Presto! Your birthday will disappear. Of course, you should never use you real birthday in the first place. ;-)

The calendar is open to all registered members. If you need to post an event, anniversary or anything timely, feel free to use and check the calendar often. November birthdays are mescals (2nd), Jessie & Bray (7th), horse girl (12th), and Thomas Scourger (19th). (I know Thomas has been given his present by the 18th being a taped show. ) Congratulations, everyone!

If there were 365 persons in a room, the chances of no-one sharing a birthday is very remote indeed.
In an idle moment a few years (well, several idle moments) we tried working out a formula, as one does in a pub, when the news is boring or uninteresting. We came to the conclusion after experimenting several times that once you get past 18 persons in a room, it was likely that two shared a birthday. So that made it around 18 to 1.
We had gone round everyone in the pub asking them when their birthday was (just the month and day) and we never once got past 18. On more than one occasion it never got above 10.
Oh dear, I think I have been just as boring and uninteresting as the news. Y'all voted yet?

nice pub work Brit but the math is fuzzy... mind sharing why 18 was the magic number? Also, was there any month that stood out from the others as when the most people were born? If so, has the month nine months before been declared "National Love Month" . (Yep. ANY subject can be changed to basic instincts.) --- Back in college, we had a civics professor who talked about this factory town in Pennsylvania many years ago that had the highest birth rate in the country, so some people were sent by the govt. there to discover why. They found that the factory whistle would blow at 6AM to wake everyone up and then blow again at 8AM to call people to work. Well, whaddaya gonna do for 2 hours when you wake up and the only warm thing in the house is the body in bed next to you?

What does she teach and can she get my son with the bad SATs into UMass? ;D She teaches Women's Studies and other sociology courses, such as statistics. She just received tenure this past summer, but I don't think even that's enough clout to deal with bad SATs. As to a visit, dunno. I've been out there once, in August, 2005. It was a wonderful, if short time. I'd like to fly out again. Maybe bring some of my girls with.

About National Love Month (I'm experiencing technical challenges with the quote function):
Hospital Labor and Delivery Units always have more deliveries in August and September. Apparently folks have lots of spare time during the Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations nine months earlier!
My anecdotal experience over many years of family practice confirmed this trend, so I waited until October for my vacation, knowing August and September would be busy.

I think I perceive a trend for farm families to plan for the conception before spring planting and the birth after Fall harvest.

Here's an interesting note. To be a member of a ProBoards forum, you are REQUIRED to submit your birthday which can never be changed. However, since we are shy people, there has been a small concern about the disclosure of birthdays. So, after some research, I discovered that birthdays ONLY show up on your profile, the calendar and Info Center if your email is not "hidden". If you do not want anyone to know the date of your birthday, all you have to do is to "hide" your email when you modify your profile. That way it can only be seen by you and the Administrator; it can not be seen by other members, Moderators or guests. Now, we may be shy, but we'll take any reason to celebrate anything, so if you have your email hidden for other reasons, and you want us to know the date of your birthday, you'll have to tell us about it. We promise we won't think you're calling attention to yourself !!
