I'm off to NYC next Tuesday for two weeks. I have a bunch of tour tickets and tickets to see David Remnick (editor of New Yorker) interview Ian McKellan, plus we'll get tickets there for shows. Any ideas for where I might go while I'm there?

I'll try, liro and PT. I'm hoping to see some dance also. My husband is insisting on one musical. I really don't like musicals (esp. Andrew Lloyd Weber) unless there is lots of dancing like "Chicago." What's the least painful musical to go to? (Please god, not Mama Mia.)
I actually went to "Cats" once. It was semi-cute for about five minutes. Cats. Dancing. Then I realized that was the whole show. Cats dancing. My daughter and I left at intermission, but I still regret that lost hour of my life.
We had tickets to the Philharmonic last rehearsal before a performance (you can hear the whole concert at a very low price), but for some reason, it was cancelled.
Planning a trip to Katz's Deli for my once every two years meat fiesta. Half a corned beef sandwich. Only meat I've eaten in ten years is at Katz's.
Dreading the plane. If they keep us on the runway for eight hours, I will quite literally go mad. I hate flying anyway. All my phobias start milling around inside my poor xanex-d body. Agoraphobia. Claustrophobia. High-up-in-the air ophobia.

Is there a train or bus from anywhere near you or the airport? Next time you might consider it. As I've mentioned, when I had to take the bus from Cincinnati to Boston because no planes were flying on 9/14/'01, I found it quite tolerable.

We looked at trains, but they were incredibly expensive. And the bus took 17 hours. We considered driving but paying for gas and then leaving the car in a lot somewhere would have cost more than the plane.
Send positive energy out to Northwest Airlines on Tuesday morning!

There's always "Spring Awakening," a musical about German sex.

To begin with, Jane, I'm green with envy. New York is my favorite city in this country, 2nd favorite on the globe. But, to answer your question, here are my recommendations:
1. ‘Town’, Geoffrey Zakarian's restaurant in the Chambers Hotel
2. Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd Street MUSEUM OF ILLUSTRATION GALLERY HOURS:
Tuesdays; 10 AM–8 PM
Wednesdays - Fridays; 10 AM–5 PM
Saturdays; 12 noon–4 PM
FREE admittance. Closed most holidays
3. Sutton Café 1026 1st Ave.
4. Strawberry Fields, Central Park
5. Museum of Natural History
6. If you’re going to see a musical, I highly recommend ‘Les Miserables’ at the Broadhurst Theatre. There’s no dancing, really, but this is a terrific, engrossing story with a marvelous musical score. When I first saw it back in the ‘80’s I couldn’t get to sleep that night. It was that show that made me go back to school and study acting, get on the stage, get my union cards, become an actor.
7. Like Jazz? the Blue Note Jazz club 131 W. 3rd St.
Now, two places to AVOID:
Tavern on the Green--OVERRATED! Ridiculously expensive for what you get.
Lindy's--lousy service, high prices, and if the Donner Party had had food like that, they STILL would have eaten each other.
Have a great time!
