We got a bid for cleaning here and Howard thinks it is too high at $600. I think it's not bad for thorough job. What do y'all think?
It includes Windows, floors, cupboards and all the usual cleaning of bathrooms, bedrooms. House is 2 BR 2 bath with front and side porches, eat-in kitchen area.

Fine. Tell Howard to name his cheaper price to do the cleaning himself; that way the job will be done reasonably and the money can stay in the family. Payment not collectible until an inspection has been passed. (You do the inspection.)
Yes, $600 is good for a thorough job.

I'm good with that price, too. Who is going to be there to inspect their job?

It cost us $300 to have my mother's house cleaned, but that was seven years ago, and the house is in a tiny town where I'm sure everything is cheaper. She did a good job, and the house was kind of a mess to start with.

Howard and Sam decided the bid was too high so Sam will find someone else for us and he will "inspect."
And of course we'll be back at the end of April for MerleFest and can also check. Sam was insulted that someone he recommended turned in such a "high bid." It's a small town and I guess things "should" cost less.

The Bham house is very clean upstairs and they will return to finish downstairs next week ($500 total). The lawn clearing, mowing, tree trimming, and brush removal will be done tomorrow ($800). The junk removal (6 years of college kid junk) was last week ($525). We'll actually move in tomorrow, though we've been gradually doing that for 2 weeks.
It's still an old house that needs lots of cosmetic work as well as 1) re-do the plumbing (I think we'll go with Wolfgang's bid) and 2) remodel kitchen and 2 - 3 bathrooms.
Plumbing first, may uncover bathroom and kitchen stuff. Howard wants deck and new hot tub ASAP while I feel that is secondary. Though deck has grand view of Bham Bay, Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, and even Vancouver BC on a clear day.
Our NC electrician, plumber and contractor have inquired about "free working vacation out west" but I do no think they are licensed, bonded and insured here.
Our downstairs (garage level, it's a split entry house) has Laundry, full bath, indoor shop, and 1 or 2 bedrooms as well as large family/TV/game room. I have thought maybe small kitchenette would be practicable addition - maybe future mother-in-law suite or boomerang kid area, future resale value. 6 or 7 feet of wall space (family side of laundry room)for sink, apartment size fridge, stove or cook top, dishwasher and microwave, couple cabinets. Howard says no. Check it's even suitable for teen world or man cave or guest quarters.
Of course if we stay long enough I still want my Tiny House uphill in the backyard. No one will be allowed to leave socks and underwear on floor or dirty dishes in sink!
Howard is beginning to make noises like he may way to stay here. Me, I'm changing my user name to Bi-Coastal.
