I haven't formed an opinion on this issue, but I do have some thoughts on what has transpired since "Indiana governor Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law last week."
One thing that bothers me is what is a person supposed to do if they believe that specifically homosexual *acts* are sinful and a gay couple comes to them wanting their services? Okay, I'm tempted to erase what I just wrote because I see the problem this situation presents.
I get it how a doctor can't refuse to render aid to a person in need of medical help regardless of the person's traits and a retail store can't refuse to sell their items...except that a retail store can refuse to sell their items. If a person walked into Cabelas and went over to the gun department to buy ammunition with the intent to kill someone--s/he states, "I'm going to shoot my mother," the retailer can legally refuse to sell the bullets.
Let me keep thinking out loud here.
So homosexuality is not illegal so therefore others cannot discriminate based on homosexuality. But now we're back to my original thought. If a gay couple wants to hire Straight-Up Photography to shoot their wedding, why shouldn't S-U-Photo be able to refuse them since homosexual acts are morally corrupt for this service-provider?
I don't understand why one person's rights trump or negate another person's rights. So, it would seem that S-U-Photography does not have the right to chose who is and isn't his/her client. Wow.
I provide transcription services. If Satanists came to me to transcribe their rituals. I wouldn't do it. I'd go to prison before I'd do that. But it seems that I have no rights to chose to provide Satanists service. Wow.
There's something wrong here.
