This video has gone viral and really is a joy. I've added a link because I'm not sure the ones in the story will open. www.wdrb.com/story/24661235/students-in-louisville-sing-the-national-anthem-to-support-u-s-olympic-team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's tradition. It's patriotism. And it's amazing to listen to hundreds of high school music students sing the "Star Spangled Banner."
The Kentucky State Choir conference gathers at the Louisville Hyatt downtown each year. It's tradition that each night at 11 p.m. everyone comes out to the balconies of the 18 story hotel. And everything stops, as they sing the National Anthem.
Impressed hotel guests posted videos on the WDRB social media pages thinking the students were supporting the U. S. Olympic team. But this is an annual tradition that is applause-worthy. We think you'll agree.

Ain't that the truth, Joe. One of my favorite sounds and styles, too.

This one of my most favorite unlikely duos to sing this song: Yup! It's that time of year again!

They're pretty good.
BTW: How do you know it's cold outside? When you go outside and it's cold.

My buddy and his family in New Zealand are putting up their Christmas tree and said this song is the first one off the rack for this season. I love this song! I would never have heard it without international friends.

Time to go Down Under. New Zealand love songs. This one was played at a 5-day old daughter's funeral. It's lovely.

A couple of nights ago Joe treated us to an aria he is able to sing while shoveling snow. Then I added a favorite chorus from the same opera.
Now I want to share a bit from a DVD we watched last night. Bear with me. You will love this.
It was an open-air concert outside of Berlin. (I'd tell you the name but I don't want to try copying too much.) It's huge, and as the sun wanes, lighting effects can enhance the performance and - I think - signal the audience when they can go crazy. So picture about 20,000 (yup!) Germans and visitors, the high-rollers in chairs at the front and others on benches up the hillsides till it's just several thousand more on the grass. The performers? Only Placido Domingo ( a friend and competitor of Pavarotti), representing the old guard in tenors, and one of the new powerful tenors, Rolando Villazon with star soprano, Anna Netrebko. The challenge is to include music that Domingo's voice can still handle - and he still had incredible power, just not the high notes. It was a lovely range of music with performers who obviously like each other.
Then came time for the encores. Each star took an encore, Netrebco and Villazon did a duet (they've worked together a lot at the Met, and then came one of the most rousing songs in opera. It's a classic drinking song, usually sung by the tenor and soprano in La Traviata, but for the fun of it this time the two tenors shared the tenor part. The audience went nuts. Some had lights and sparklers to wave, and some linked arms to sway to the music, just like any German drinking song.
Alas, the youtube is dark, but it was so joyous I was in tears. It's over in a little over 3 minutes. The rest is clapping. You'll know when Villazon and Netrebko blow the roof off.

Thanks, Babe. You've tried before to teach me this, but I still need tutoring.
I saw all those people so caught up in the music and I wished we could have been there - with all our family who loved music, swaying together in a cosmic hug. If Einstein was right, maybe we all were there and that's heaven.

Postmodern Jukebox. I just discovered them. They have rotating players. The piano player is the Main Guy. It's hard to believe this is a white girl doing this Aerosmith cover.
