I'm at my second Fairfield Inn of this trip, and I am really liking this lime green and orange decor! How'd they get them all alike so quickly?
I took some photos but I'll have to post them when I get home, as I didn't bring the cable/USB thingey with me.

Thank you, Joe, your comments always mean a lot to me. I'm hoping to get down to Izu soon and take some pictures. I just bought a Sigma SD14 SLR digital camera with a 28-300 zoom lens and I think Izu would be the perfect place to check out how good it is.

I like it! I like it! I hope you will post some more photos. Thank you, Doc, thank you kindly. I just went through this entire thread and see than not many others have contributed. It would be fun, I think, if everyone posted some pictures they've taken, either from their travels or even their backyard. It's not a competition, it's all about sharing and having fun. All the best, Mike

I have a few from a barn tour I went on last fall. A barn where a local band holds practices and dances. ![](http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/liriopix/IMG_0239-1.jpg) Antique vehicles parked outside a barn used for woodworking. ![](http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/liriopix/IMG_0241-1.jpg) The back side of a local elementary school that was built to look like a barn. ![](http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/liriopix/IMG_0245-1.jpg)

This is an interior shot of a traditional rice merchants house built in the 1800's; located on the north-west coast of Japan. ![](http://media-files.gather.com/images/d656/d703/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg) And, when I turn 180 degrees from that scene, this is the view one gets of the garden. I like shooting through windows and doors. It makes me feel like I'm getting a more intimate feel of what I'm seeing. ![](http://media-files.gather.com/images/d654/d703/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg) All the best, Mike P.S. These pictures were taken last November.

Another great barn picture, Lirio, brings new meaning to the question I was so often asked as a young man:
Where's your manners, were you raised in a barn?
I should have proudly replied, Yes!
All the best, Mike

Wow, right on the water! Remind me again - you retired from the navy, didn't you? So now what do you do? I like all the shots through doors and arches. I'm not so hot at composition myself. Take this, for instance. Remember I told you we were replacing the temporary garden fence with another temporary fence? Here are Jerry and Mozart working on it. The right side is the old, ready to fall down side. The pile of old stakes and wire is what we took out of the left side, not actually collapsed fence. Both sides are now finished and Jerry is working on an improved gate, which he refuses to call a gate. He says it's just a movable part of the fence, so as to discourage any high-falutin' expectations. Mozart doesn't like looking into the sun, but he is blessed with very long lashes to act as sunglasses. ![](http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l233/gailkate/P1010001-1.jpg)

Yes, Gail, I'm retired from the military. However, I still work for the Navy as a civilian Federal employee, and my job is a technical librarian managing the information needed to fix the ships of the 7th Fleet. Here's today's picture: ![](http://media-files.gather.com/images/d300/d706/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg) This is the local train line that services the area I live in. It's very convenient and I use it quite often. All the best, Mike

Shirokane VolcanoLocated high above the town of Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. ![](http://media-files.gather.com/images/d118/d698/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg) I took this picture last year. I've been to this volcano several times and I'm always impressed by it and the surrounding area. It's like visiting a land that time has forgot. Mike

We have quite a few volcanoes here in Washington, and also right on down the line into Oregon and California. I have not seen any that have that milky-blue color to the water though. Looks like a glacier on the far side too. Cool.
Beautiful photo, thanks for posting.

Beautiful barns (except yours, mike, although it's not a bad photo).
And beautiful pictures of Japan. I notice the lanterns at Hakone Shrine say different things. And that's a good idea of taking pictures through windows (or gateways).
Jerry and Mozart seem well-trained, and Mozart is good-looking.

I haven't been able to get out and take any new stuff, hopefully this coming weekend trip will give me plenty of photo ops. So, back into the archives for today's photo. A picture of Chili the cat taken in February (I think). The setting is my club house (that's my slippered foot in the lower part of the picture); Chili ventured in on her own to check out my new hide out. ![](http://media-files.gather.com/images/d371/d591/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg) All the best, Mike
