Hmm I'm seeing little diamonds with a question mark everywhere I put an apostrophe or quotation marks are you? Sometimes I do, Roges. I always attributed it to your Mac computer . . . that's what you are using, right? But now I don't see any.

A Breast Of Experience
The scars which once I wore with pride Those rich, red, welted patches of Experience not yet understood Vibrant around the edges Painful yet exhilarating Brash and Beautiful Tough and athletic Talented and fun Silent and strong Ghost resistant Demon free Test my sense Of responsibility Scrappy aren't we In our youthful years In our mistaken youth In our frantic bid to shed The chains of domination Perceived in anxious authority Consecrated in hard experience And surrendered with compassion

roges poetry has awoken my long dormant desire in me to pen words to paper. I don't know where these ideas come from, they have nothing to do with me.
Changed to the same
My tears have dried I’m not the same The sands have shifted There’s no more pain I’m driving a different vehicle The destination’s changed Everything’s still the same
A passing thought Cracks open a door Of the likeness of someone We once ignored Painting color pictures On black and white film Everything’s still the same
Strawberries plumper than Ticks on a dog Gas lamps with flames Illuminate the mundane fog Still walking forward Toward days in the past Everything’s still the same

Mike! I was wondering when you'd show up. Maybe your poem has to do with me—at least I can relate. I need a change of scenery. How's Emi. When you gonna retire?
Glad I woke you up.

It's good to be awake; thanks for waking me up! My scenery is good but I could use a change in employment - as in I'd like to retire now. Maybe that's what my poem is about. Alas, I'll likely work for 3 more years in order to get better benefits. Emi is doing fine, see for yourself. Best regards, Mike

Great picture as usual. Can't wait to meet the two of you.
Maybe when you do retire we could make a trip around the US on the train together. I plan to be an expert on that within the next two years. Wine with dinner and cocktail poetry sessions in the evenings. Photo excursions every other day—great way to re-familiarize yourself with the homeland.

By the way Cool bike in the background of your picture. Are there a lot of those three speed 'Ball Busters' around Japan?

Goodbye Wyoming
I remember Wyoming, New York It wasn't much fun It's where I grew up First beer, first smoke, first time, For everything First color TV I joined the Navy
I never went back to Wyoming, New York No homing device Unlike a bat I could see My friends were still there Doing what I don’t know Makes one wonder what friends are Covering the past with fresh snow
It's not reminiscing when one is remiss Never staying in touch With the past of one's bliss Wyoming, New York is a dream to awake from A bus to get on, a plane to catch A softball came that ran its course Never went back, never felt remorse

I was in the mood to write something and so I did. Please don’t make the mistake of thinking this is about me. It’s just my imagination running away GoodnightIn the dark light of night She’d slipped in and out of his life Never one to say hello or goodbye Never one to tell the truth or lie She was more of a love than a wife Pretty good but not pretty nice He didn’t know he was a fool She took his breath when he breathed The beat of his heart stopped and started When ever she entered and departed His was not a life for a dreamer He dreamed in black and white They didn’t even say goodbye He didn’t know she was gone She never learned how to cry He called out hello to an empty sky She whispered hello to her own ears They’d lived in this hell for so many years It’s over now ‘Til death they did part In a loveless life Of invisible art Goodnight Mike

Good poem. Thanks for posting and for the prefatory note. Novelists write fiction, and so do poets, but I'm afraid we tend to think poems are autobiographical.

If I wrote a poem about myself I think it'd be a real snoozer. I would like to write a poem about my Mother. She was an incredibly gifted person and nobody wrote letters like she did. Anyway, every time I try to write a poem about her it just never works. The words just don't live up to her. Mike

Hey Mike! I love it, reminds me of Paul Simon ("Slip out the back Jack") though I hope you aren't offended by a comparison to Mr. Simon.
I am glad you dropped in, don't be a stranger.
And I also revisited your Wyoming, NY poem and was inspired to email an old high school friend I hadn't communicated with for a while.

I love your poem, Mike! Joe is exactly right. We always expect poets to be biographical. I don't know why that is so. I loved to see you again, and besides, I got to peruse the earlier posts.

Hi Babe! Here's one for the happy couples out there that have been around long enough to appreciate the beauty of a loving relationship.
Not Many Like Us
I love the sound of walking along, On a gravel covered path The soft crunch, crunch, crunch As feet move forward
One hand warmed in a mitten The other holding another Another that you love like no other
Two of us and the crisp fall air Leaves on trees the color of rust, not many left Not many like us
Not so young, not what once was Still in love, still in need of each other Like the gravel path that serenades our walk We still desire to listen when the other talks
The days behind us are memories, That shapes the beauty of our future Holding hands and walking along We’re two good friends singing our song Not many like us
Mike

Forget the evening news
Reaching in my pocket Thinking I know what's in there Finding there's no money Scratching my head Why am I here
Who gave me such a feeling Was it mine or was it yours What happened to the money Who, what, where is so absurd So many double "U"s go unheard
Politics and my religion Red and blue means I don't, Love you Call the next of kin and a lawyer The sewers backed up too
Time to tie this all together Forget the evening news Some people are really getting pissed off! Other people are singing the blues... Why am I here? On the evening news
Mike

Poetry speaks to me
Been taking pictures of you and me Lots of photographs for people to see Don't remember what it's like to live without a camera
I'm glad that I didn't know what I know now It's the best way to grow up that I know how To much knowledge can make A boy go crazy
Figure out the things that mean So much Lennon said that love "is touch" I've got a tumbler of ice And, that ain't all
Remember the songs that set you up The songs that said enough is enough A boy cleaning his gun Who is only 21 From Galveston
All the best, Mike
