DW, our Blue Ridge property is almost 2.5 acres, about half in the sun, half in the shade and Gen and Deidra have already offered to develop garden plans for us, perhaps even do some work when there for a visit. There is a stream through the middle of the property and a spring provides our water. We already have two productive apple trees, plenty of room for a garden. And since we are in the county not the town itself, we could keep livestock and be self-sufficient if we chose. It is Appalachia after all, which only recently developed communication with the outside world.

Poke was one of those handy-dandy general use plants in the old days, which is basically any time before the Depression/WW2. One of the first green things up in the Spring. Good for worms, herpes. Like I said, the Old Days. I am trying to avoid getting any worms or herpes!

Well you could certainly start a little kitchen garden... just giving you some fresh herbs, a few items other easy items. No need to go overboard unless you catch the fever!

Doc, isn't Washington National, Ronald Reagan Airport now? Not in my personal opinion, but the official name is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. I'm an old-timer so I still call it National. And as a frequent flyer I usually call it DCA.

You could snag one of those every now and then, if you were quiet about it.

I don't imagine I'd have to be quiet about it, though I don't know the NC rules for sure. S'OK I'm fine with being a vegetarian.

Speaking about cruises to Alaska - there are some great bargains these days. We have looked at cruises and decided that we just want to be more flexible and have more control over our itinerary.

For the most part I consider cruises as an opportunity to get a quick look at a variety of places in order to decide where I'd like to go back for a longer stay. However, they are very convenient in that you check in and unpack only once and then the ship does all the traveling.
And then there was the one cruise we took mainly to get out of the house and the PNW rainy gray days while I recovered from knee surgery. It was 10 days on "the Mexican Riviera" out of San Francisco, and we didn't get off the ship until the last port, and then it was just for lunch and a few souvenirs. Someone else cleaned the cabin and we only had to walk a few yards to our choice of dining rooms and entertainment venues. Quite relaxing. Frankly, for most of those Mexican and Caribbean tourist sites, a quick visit is all that's necessary as they all look alike anyway. Except for St. Martin.

He is describing a typical West Virginia environment, but his version of church sounds very Episcopal, not Brethren or Evangelical at all.
