I've never used the expression "Bless you" before as I am not a Christian but these are the only two words that spring to mind to say another two words Thomas: Thank you.

I know all about messing up, trusty, but I was looking forward to reading the chat thread. I only caught a bit of the show, when GK and PJ sang that song to the 91 year old woman. What a heartbreaker that was for me. I thought about Thomas and the loss of his sister, too.
Was Thomas able to join y'all?

Yes, Thomas was the first one there. He kept his line open & notified us of changes. It worked out VERY well, and I really appreciate it.

During the past week, somebody on one of the wbsites wondered if Garrison would use the News from Lake W to make some sort of apology for what he said about the former website. As I listened, I didn't hear anything that I would consider a reference to the uproar. He talked about Pastor Inqvist going into the Chatterbox Café, but that was all he said.
Did anybody else hear anything that sounded like a veiled apology which insiders might have caught?

GK will probably not issue an apology and if he did it would likely not be veiled. I agree his rather curt comment was less than engaging and certainly not inviting. But why should he even consider bringing it up? RHIP: rank [and celebrity] have it's/their privilege. After all these years of acting humble GK seems to be shedding that LW aura. Pity!

Some of us had hoped he might do domething like make one of his characters come out with a snappy comeback and then regret it when s/he realizes the hurt it caused. I wouldn't have been surprised if he had, because I tend to believe he didn't mean to hurt people's feelings, just to be witty.

I wonder why I can't karma-tize anyone on this thread? I was going to tweak flagcat (she's my gal, after all), but there's no karma button to push.

slb2: Thank you for recognition. I surprise myself as this would be the absolute first ever time I have not been thoroughly enchanted with GK and his every utterance. ****Groupie here! The manner he chose was very uncharacteristic and rather offensive I thought. Interesting and now archived, mine was the very last entry in '06 cruise CB.

I've been thinking more and more about some folks real pain and disillusionment. So I tried to put myself in their shoes. I imagined what it would be like if my beloved BeauSoleil behaved the way that GK did with his reply in PTTH. Yep. I'd be shattered. I don't know that others are as ga-ga over GK as I am over Beau, but maybe some are. Beau is the reason I went on the first cruise, shelling out way more money than I even had! And I've traveled all over the country, or so it feels, just like juliastar, to hear Beau play. I go to every concert within 200 miles of my house. I'm [shadow=red,left,300]whipped[/shadow]. And I guess if Michael, the leader of the band, suddenly said, "you know, all those die-hard fans of ours, man, what a buncha hicks! Why can't they get a life instead of hounding us at our gigs all the time?" Just thinking about it floors me. Because not only would I feel devastated, but then, where would I go with all my love for them that I would no longer feel comfortable giving them? And what would I listen to when I wanted to shake my blue moods, or wanted to dance, or wanted to sing? So, to those of you who nearly idolize GK, I think I can finally empathize with you. And I offer my sympathy with both arms and tissues. I know it's late for this, but I tend to process deep stuff slowly. Life always gets better, that's the way it works. Until your life feels better, I'll hold your hand. [/img] I have a picture, but don't remember how to insert it.

Thanks falco, for your comment on my soul. Since I'm a medium APHC fan, but a pretty big fan of GK's insofar as his writing goes, that, plus I found him such a caring soul on the cruise. And he treats his employees wonderfully, it would seem, I tend to think of him as still a pretty decent human being. He muffed. Don't we all? Sometimes even really, really badly?

Microburst like thunder and lightning here that woke me up out of a dream in which I was trying to put these boots are made for walking boots on over lace hose (only one was on) and I was leaving the office to go on a cruise and I hadn't told anyone and there were all these client's needs that weren't going to get met . . . At least the house isn't on fire and I don't see any downed trees.
I wouldn't say I idolized him. Or am shattered. I would say that I respected him. And I'm giving that a rest.

I would never have done what GK did, but then, I'm not GK. Is brutal honesty the best approach... that's what we often do -- why not him too?
Anyway, what's done is done; we've moved on, maybe it's for the best. It was for the best; what other option is there?

Why not him?
Well, for one, it creates a question -- will the real Garrison please stand up. Do you love your fans or hate them? Which fans do you want and which ones embarrass you? As he wrote recently of the Pope in his Old Scout column, doesn't he have handlers? Doesn't he realize the power of words in juxtaposition to the status he holds and the respect he enjoys? And, if one is to take him at his word, his "brutal honesty" was not informed. It was hastily concluded and it was not administered in the context of a back and forth or any attempt to rectify a situation, it was said vaguely in a manner that was not helpful and said needlessly in the context of a done deal pronouncement.
But if brutal honesty is what it is, then the reaction will be what it is. Such directness has consequences. No surprise, I'm in favor of it. I wish he had done something like this sooner, so I would have wasted less time defending him. Heaven knows, doormat is not an adjective I would use to describe myself.

Jay, I've known doormats... and, you're no doormat. But then, you already know that.
And, GK is not the Pope... but, maybe GK doesn't know that -- but we do.

I was one of the ones who hoped to hear some little homily in the News that might refer to regretting hasty words. But not only did that not happen - and I think we'll have to abandon hope, Joe - whoever chooses comments to include in the post-to-host column continued to post letters from people saying indeed we were all dopey. Do you see what that looks like? Deliberately dividing the audience, cool fan from dopey fan. Carrying on from Mike's post, I've seen uniters and GK is no uniter.

I see GK's comments slightly differently from this side of the pond.
I can only surmise, but offer this option: it is possible that he observed that the Lake Wobegon Chat had "appeared" to become the personal fiefdom of one contributor.

I'm excited! I have a Karma! Thank you slb2. Perfect description Falco: I feel a sort of 'rejected devotion' but will not linger over it and will continue to love my Sat radio date. Might ease a major decision regarding future travel plans though... Somehow I feel if Chet Atkins were still with us to entertain, all would be quickly forgotten.

I've received several shockingly hateful poison pen letters from "Garrison and his apparent attorney." With some help from some of you I have realized that there is a naughty boy, and also possibly, girl, who are trying to stir the pot.
Unfortunately they make Garrison look like a fool. Not a very gentlemanly thing to do, I'd guess.
"It's not nice to try to fool an English major" she said, boastingly.
