I agree with your assessment - they are newbies at liveaboard, and tiny living. But I have to admire them - and you & Thom, and the Elstons - for undertaking the effort to try something new, different, and challenging.
I also agree with the sentiment that "You don't know your strengths until you know your limits."
I can live tiny, I can live semi-rootless, I can work or travel 24 - 36 hours straight, but I greatly prefer not to live on a boat. For a long time our kids wished we lived on the lake (like many of our friends and a few relatives), or the river (like grandma), or the ocean, or some other place with waterfront. One of my known limits is I don't care for the effort of waterfront maintenance. It would be even harder to deal with my entire dwelling on the water.
I am watching a new HGTV show called "Tiny House Builders," featuring Deek Diedriksen, one of the founders of the Tiny House Movement. I have met him at one of the Tiny House events and he is quite enthusiastic, even charismatic. I hope the show is successful and becomes a regular feature. One of these days I'll build my tiny house, and I'll appreciate enthusiastic moral support.

Go for it, Doc! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Tiny Houses are going big time! Two more shows tonight on HGTV. "Tiny House Hunters" is on now, and then later on tonight is "Tiny House, Big Living."
I hope I am not missing the boat, waiting until Tiny Houses are old news, but I am not ready to build tiny just yet. However, living small is a lifestyle that never really can go out of style. You either want to go there, or you don't.
Ecuador - well prices there do continue to go up as the number of gringos moving south increase. It's still far less expensive than retirement in the US, and most Americans are still going to retire in the US, usually in the same place they have lived all along.
