Something to strive for? Something genetic? A learned trait or the accumulative knowledge of consecutive lives? Why do some seek it and others avoid it and... are the persistent sayings of the wealthy and famous truly wise or are they the flaws, in human Philosophy.
What words of wisdom would you wish to have persist?

philosophy is the basis for human cultural interaction The news is the outcome of the effectiveness of that philosophy

One of my favorite "Kristinisms:"
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.
When I quit one of my jobs, as a going-away present, the staff gave me a booklet full of what they called "kristinisms."

I've been thinking about this on different levels. the most important philosophy that I try (and fail) to follow is to Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself. Culturally, we are farther from that than we've ever been - at least in my lifetime.
On a more day-to-day practical level: if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. (Just got one of those 'net letters ranting about billions of gallons of oil in America that those no-good environmentalists are keeping us from using. Turns out to be full of hooey.)

It is what it is.
This too shall pass. (The good things and the bad things both.)
From Sunday's sermon: It's better to be sadly wise than blissfully ignorant. (I'm up in the air about this one.)

"The best way to redefine the misunderstood is to revisit the definition" An ism so obvious that it borders on stupid but it is original —a true rogeism. are there janism or Gailisms

Here are seven that come immediately to mind (You've probably heard at least a couple of these before):
Don't sweat the small stuff, but don't forget the details. Be sure that you know the difference.
People who claim that they have no trust in their fellow man should never get behind the wheel of an automobile on a two lane road.
The world seems to suffer from a surfeit of opinion and a deficit of knowledge.
The word is not the thing it represents, the symbol is not what is symbolized, the map is not the territory.
Don't just do something, sit there (and consider the responsive possibilities)
"Virtual Reality" is an oxymoron and--by definition--isn't real. "Virtuous Reality" is as real as you choose to make it.
There are no "new" thoughts: We are all compilers.

Sure, I tell anyone who would listen not to move around a lot and always hire someone else to clean your house.
Moving frequently isnt good for families (IMHO) and housework is for the birds. However, I no longer hire someone else to do my housework, as I can't justify it when I'm not working. And poor.

Sure, I tell anyone who would listen not to move around a lot and always hire someone else to clean your house. Moving frequently isnt good for families (IMHO) and housework is for the birds. However, I no longer hire someone else to do my housework, as I can't justify it when I'm not working. And poor. That business of moving around has pluses and minuses. I had many upsets about moves when I was growing up, times I hated to leave one place, go to another. I was very envious of my cousins who got to spend their whole lives in one place! But in retrospect, I was, and remain, very glad of it. And the one time we moved when I had two teen-age daughters, it was very clear the I was Hands-Down The Worst Mother On The Face Of The Earth. But I was dying at that job, having to travel well over 200,000 B-I-S miles (that's Butt-In-Seat, not just from my credit card points) per year, and that was 4 days per week, going cross-country every single week, so I had to change to a job that was less travel. The new job with only 25% travel paid much more, and it put 3 kids through college with no loans, secured my pension, and paid my salary and benefits for 3 months when I was out for major surgery. So I could not really say it was the wrong thing to do, despite the fact that it earned me that "Worst Mother" title. Now another Kristinism is one I tell at least one of my patients every day: I am not your mother and I am not the health police. You do not HAVE to do any of these things I tell you (like take meds, diet/exercise, have unpleasant tests, etc). But you're here asking my advice, now you decide what you would like to do with that advice.

In the end it is not our possessions or worth for which our lives will be judged but the psychological stability of the children who were shaded by our umbrella.

There is no wrong ideal which doesn't violently force it's premise upon that of another. That is not to say that the appearance of violence is always violent in intent.

Seek out passions in your life. If one of them makes you money hold on tight— if that's all it makes you run away as fast as you can.

Seek out passions in your life. If one of them makes you money hold on tight— if that's all it makes you run away as fast as you can. Oh, I like this one. One of my personal favorites: Anticipated Stress is Much Worse Than Actual Stress, and I wrote that theory even though I dislike the word, "stress." It makes me roll my eyes.
