Gosh, Tillie —
There was some discussion about this over at the former Chatterbox Café. I can understand how people might like Dave's opinions and the sense of humor he often displayed; but I still am amazed that his constant anger, in-your-face hostility toward anybody who had the temerity to disagree with him, and recurring images of violence didn't begin to wear thin even for people who agreed with him politically.
OTOH, would be happy to see the Borkowskis here, although I don't recall much beyond the names.

I'm not really remembering him, either, but someone mentioned trying to find him to connect with him here, so I tried to make contact.

Joe Thacker joined the CB in June, 2004, but mostly stayed on the show threads.
Oh, hey. I found one:
"Then again, they're now doing extra-unaired shows on Fridays. I find it hard to believe that it's exactly like the Sat. show with all the improv banter. By joethacker"
I attended the Friday night show. Fabulous seats, front and center. After seeing this show, my first, I wished I could see every show. Garrison was definitely more biting and satirical on Friday. We heard quite an earful of Liberal Leaning talk. Side splitting fun, in my opinion. I'd recommend the Friday shows as I suspect they are, overall, a bit more candid and randy. This is close......
Check your pulse it's proof that you're not listening to The call your life's been issuing you The rhythm of a line of idle days
Scared of a world outside you should go explore Pull all the shades and wander the great indoors The great indoors
Lamplight makes the shadows play And posters take the walls away The T.V. is your window pane The view won't let you down So put your faith in a late night show I bet you didn't even know Depends on how far out you go The channel numbers change
Scared of a world outside you should go explore Pull all the shades and wander the great indoors
Though lately I can't blame you I have seen the world And sometimes wish your room had room for two
So go unlock the door And find what you are here for Leave the great indoors Please leave the great indoors
Check your pulse it's proof that you're not listening to The call your life's been issuing you The rhythm of a line of idle days
(John Mayer, "The Great Indoors")

Not to worry, bl.
Many preachers have had the experience of someone thanking them for delivering a messag which they hadn't known they were delivering.
Poetry touchés people in different ways. Or as Thomas Aquinas says, whatever is received is received according to the capacity of the one receiving.

That song lives in my heart for my daugher, Joe. When I drove cross-country with her two years ago as she was moving to California, John Mayer's album was playing incessantly as we drove, and the last verse of that song resonated for me as mom: "Go unlock the door," my lovely one!
Very pleasant associations for me.
As for sermons, what IS up with that? My pastors are alway talking right to me!!

I think it is the Holy Spirit, leading those who are open to hear what God wants them to hear. At least some of the time that's what it is.

Two things. One, I suspect your reasoning is true, joew, which is why I'm avoiding reading the whole text of Sunday's sermon that you sent me (by request, folk, joew's not proselyting in p.m.s).
The second: yeehaw! TAS is here!

I think it is the Holy Spirit, leading those who are open to hear what God wants them to hear. At least some of the time that's what it is. Joe, this might offend you. I hope not. I took it in a most positive and spiritually mystical way. I watched the Martin Scorsese documentary about Bob Dylan yesterday. At one point, someone says about his genius that he was simply zinged by the Holy Spirit. You know, I think that guy may have been right. There is just something different about some folks that suggests they have been supernaturally gifted. I think Dylan falls into that category. And of course, his music referenced spiritual topics long before his "conversion." Anyway, your reference to the Holy Spirit made me think of that.

I actually think the HS often gives us ideas, guidance, suggestions, inspiration, or whatever you want to call it.

Entirely possible, IMO, bl. I actually think the HS often gives us ideas, guidance, suggestions, inspiration, or whatever you want to call it. For research, the description of the functions of the Holy Spirit is found in 1 Corinthians 12 & 14. Makes interesting reading, but right in the middle is 1 Cor. 13 - the famous "love" chapter - that offers a heck of a challenge if you read it right. What you do is personalize it; substitute the word "I" for the word "love" (or "charity" if you have the King James Version). For instance, instead of saying "Love is patient and kind..." say "I am patient and kind..." Continue like that through the description of love in that small chapter (Verses 4-8). (Try to use a modern version of the Bible; the KJV will work, but it's a little harder for this exercise. Better yet, call up www.blueletterbible.org and click on many different versions of the chapter.) When I first tried it years ago, it blew me away. At first I couldn't believe it. Then I couldn't believe what I didn't believe. I couldn't get away from it; at first I didn't think it was a description of me when I personalized the words, but I KNEW down deep I had the POTENTIAL to be what I was saying I was. Anyone who believes in Love needs to look at those five short verses, personalize the words, and get ready for a dramatic change in attitude and self-esteem. Take it on as an assignment; try it.

I've sent an invite to Seattle Sue. Would like to see Moosie here again, Hermano (who will never tell anybody how to contact him. Shame, Bro!), Roges, Devorgil, Siegbrunn, The Svede.
Been in contact with some of these folks.
Funny how little it can take for a sharp word to drive someone away.
Glad not to see that anymore.

The only way, other than nature, that I am in touch with a Higher Guidance is through the words and actions of other people. Negative or positive those both seem to influence me to think about where I want to be.
Lotsa steps yet in front of me but everyone I meet gives me a hand (or a foot.)

If you check her profiles you see that although she registered twice, she has not activated either account. Maybe she didn't pay attention the the e-mail that told her to do it, or maybe she wasn't able to follow the instructions (for whatever reason), or maybe something else. I recall some indication from her of frustration at being unable to log in, and some replies suggesting what she sould do; but in the end she seems to have been unable to get throught the red cybertape.
