Please. Al Franken is horrible. Or at least he was back when he was regularly featured on Saturday Night Live. I couldn't stand him then and that sort of affected my ability to stand him ever. Maybe he's changed. BL, I'd have to disagree. In the Franken days, SNL was worth watching (it no longer is). He did hilarious send-ups of Henry Kissinger, Senator Paul Simon, Pat Robertson and a roving foreign correspondent with a satellite dish strapped to his head. Unlike Ronald Reagan, Franken did not co-star with a chimp. But, Al Franken did co-star with Michael Moore... and that's pretty much the same thing as a co-staring with a chimp!

Franken didn't "co-star" with Moore. And Moore was right about Bush's "fictitious" war. Have a banana.

Franken was good when he was hilarious, wasn't he! I must have missed those shows. The "Me Decade"? Stuart Smalley? I confess that was all I remember of him. It wasn't the "Me Decade," by the way. I think that was Tom Wolfe's coinage for the 70's. You're thinking of the "Al Franken Decade," which followed the 1970's. Face it, BL. You were toking far too much reefer to remember anything about SNL and the Al Franken Decade with clarity. But doggone it, we still like you!

I like Franken as a candidate and political penguin. He can dress the part and at the same time, his qualities and skills underneath the costume keep him afloat. What would qualify me to run for president? I have the desire. I have the resilency. I have the strength. I can write damn good speeches and now that I'm in Toastmasters, I'm planning to learn to deliver a Wellstonian message. I don't flinch. Don't care what you dig up from my past, and there's plenty, I won't flinch. What would screw me up? I have absolutely NO desire to tell anyone else what to do. I sometimes acquire natural leadship positions, but I rarely seek to be a leader. (see reason #1) I'm a poor team player. My attitude is "just do it" and don't trouble me about it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I have a greater desire to write, so any desire for office would take second place.

Stuart Smalley is probably a lot more humorous if you had grown up in MN, the Land of 10,000 Twelve Step Groups.
Yes! Ronald Reagan! That was my point. He took his naps during cabinet meetings if I remember correctly. Now that's leadership!
