Two fine poems — each in its own way. Thanks, roges and BB.

Agreed. I'm intimidated by people with the moxie to write poetry. Thanks for letting us read your work.

Great glimpse into dock life BB. I hope you've given a signed copy to her parents. I DID give a signed copy to Stevie's parents. I thought I had lost that poem, and My Dahhlink dredged it up out of the computer he has in Arizona. He sent me home with a disk. I love it! I also sent two "dead" laptops home with his brother to resurrect lost writings. We shall see, won't we.

Ok Babe, here's one for you. Beaucoup of BeaucoupTurning grey at the losers lounge Beaucoup of blues is getting me down A trend setter for getting it wrong A few more drinks and I'll sing you the song Never my love and all night long Hosanna, hosanna hands to the sky Softly we shout our praise then cry Moving to the left of right before turning Signaling a chance to forget Paris burning The look of love is never returning What does it mean and why all the rhyming Ashes mixed with water then heat for drying Patterns in marble like clouds in the blue A boat, a tree, a photograph of a view Make for frivolous follies and la-de-da-do Just saying hello from me to you! Mike

Thanks for your poem, I always love them Mike!
And I am glad to see you back. I have always admired your photos as well as your poem. Thanks to your inspiration I will make a sincere effort to take pictures on the cruise and post them.
But I don't have the talent to write poetry, I'll leave that to you.

I'm also glad to see that you haven't abandoned us, Mike. I was beginning to feel a trifle concerned.

Thank you all for the kind remarks and the warm welcome.
Doc, I wouldn't classify my poetry writing as "talented". I think it's just that I'm not afraid to share it here with everyone. Most of my stuff is not particularly clever, it's just what happens to pop into my head; not much interference by the thought process is involved. The one with the real talent is roges; his poems are truly remarkable.
Joe, I could never abandon this place. That would be like abandoning my family.
All the best, Mike

The ability to take those little moments and write about them with "whatever pops into my head" that makes us say "You know, that is soooo right/familiar/captures the thought" - seems like a talent to me.\!

Other Places
What to wear in Buenos Aires I really need to know When I look in the mirror I am the fairest – or so to me I told
What to do in Mozambique On a lazy afternoon Perhaps cocktails with a shipping tycoon We’d speak in Greek – I think I presume
In a moment of frenzy in Krakatau Feeling the heat beneath my feet I forgot to remember what else I’d be doing That’s what happens when everything's Greek
Lastly in a sea of minutiae When first I set eyes on you I felt like I was in Tanzania And I hope you feel that way too I do

Gracie, that's wonderful news; I wish you the best.
Here's a bad poem that just fell out of my head.
Returnning
We used to play at the beach for fun Splash in the water and fry under the Sun Our pasty white skin would turn red and blister While parents played pinochle in a cabana We were so happy, we were so young Even bee bites never stung
Kool-aid was pretty cool Drank from aluminum cups anodized in red and blue A Pontiac station wagon parked out front Fake wood paneling and shag carpet A Zenith console television set We never worried, we'd never fret
The sound of music played on and on Julie Andrews was a favorite of my Mom Shoveling snow and walking to school Wondering and dreaming about kissing a girl Playing with friends 'til the sun went down A vinyl LP spins round and round
The End Mike

Isn't it amazing that we all survived back in those Good Old Days?
Nowadays you can't check the internet, hear or see the news on the radio/TV without learning that some new study has "proven" that a major staple in our lives (peanut butter is the latest in a long string that includes baby bottles and formula) is actually "very dangerous" to our health.
We did not wear seat belts or bike helmets, and none of us was kidnapped walking to or from school. Yet here we are still.
Thanks for the poem Mike!

Tis not of evil Gods intent This hardn’d hand of winter which Is precious to rebirth in spring The summers crops the food they bring Yet We in haste our judgment pass This slush and snow it can not last
Begone foul mush from road and alley In parking lots you shall not dally On hills we shall erase the crust With chemicals that…may cause rust And sand to blast the undercoat Alas My car’s loan’s… overwrote
And now comes winter’s final slander That Rodent t’which the weather’s pander Appears before his humble hovel And yawns “To hand thy trusty shovel” For spring is still some six weeks distant Your torment it shall be persistent Forsooth The fenders further bent Your deductible is now well spent
